There was no Pete Wring. This is a *******ization of his fight with Seargent William Ring in the 1918 service tournament in London which was not an official professional fight. In some of the newspapers here in the United States Seargent William Ring was incorrectly called Private W. Ring, which was sometimes carried as P. Wring. This writer took that further and named him Pete Wring. Greb lost a three round decision to Ring in December of 1918 in the second round of the tournament to which he and his team mates complained bitterly due to the biased scoring of the British system.
