Sorry But I Simply Cant Pick A Winner Maybe Giving A Slight Edge To Hagler With His Power, but Then Again Greb Had Blazing Speed With Punches Coming From All Angles, many Fighters Said It Was Simply Unbelivable (punches Flying From All Directions)i See Greb Taking At Least 1 If Not 2 Out Of 3 Bloody Matches.i Have Always Been A Dempsey Fan But Ive Been Studying Tunney Alot Lately And If He Held His Hands A Little Higher, with His Underated Power And (really Fast) Combinations Would Prob. Own At Least One Belt If He Was 10 Pounds Heavier therefore qualifying in the heavyweight class
can a forgotten harry greb only get 1 reply on a classic forum when more recent boxers are overfilling the forum,i am curious of a little more feedback guys
I think Greb would beat Hagler, based on the hundreds of fighters he beat (including some very good fighters who were bigger and badder than Hagler). Greb apparently had a style all of his own, and caused plenty of discomfort to everyone he faced. His speed was apparently incredible, as was his workrate, the volume of punches and his unorthodox angles of attack. Hagler was a legend and damn near invincible in his own right, but I dont imagine him figuring out or knocking out Greb at first time of asking. Tunney would probably beat most of the fighters today, but of course be in the light-heavy and cruiser divisions. I'm so unimpressed by today's heavyweights that I wont even argue that Tunney could beat X or Y, and risk getting into that debate with someone who wants to tell me about HOW BIG X and Y are. Today's heavyweights dont even seem worthy for discussion.
i agree completely thats all u ever hear when u mention fighters of the past like rocky dempsey walcott, tunney, ect.,ect, even if they have 20 pnds of fat and 10 pnds of muscle more there lack of skills and sometimes heart more than makes up for it,but we will keep on hearin they are to big for the greats of the past sometimes i cant believe im on a classic forum and have to check
I have to pick Greb based on what he acomplished. I will observe however that if I had to hand pick a middleweight to beat Greb then Hagler wouldnt be a bad choice. I would give him a much better chance than Monzon for example.
Hagler. Extremely durable, impervious chin, a style that is not as kinetic as Greb, but is more complex and just as tough to solve, power, decent speed, vicious jab, and the key -body punching. I'd expect to see Hagler moving Greb backwards behind stiff shots to his chest. At his best, Hagler combined sound fundamentals and ambidexterity with savagery. Greb punched at all angles, but Hagler had the ability to confuse you with different trajectories of shots that were hard to anticipate and defend against.
I got to go with Greb, heard so much about how great he was from the oldtimers....I think Tunney was ver athletic and would be the standout amoung the Americans
Brutal, brutal fight. Greb by close decision. Has anyone read Four Kings or the new book about Harry Greb?
Greb by late stoppage (cuts) or decision. I couldn't see Hagler beating Michael Spinks back in the day. Greb beat Tunney (a small heavyweight) who was better than Spinks in my opinion.
