A Joe Louis who might've been a little weight drained, against a peak Greb... can Greb pull it off?

All the footage I have seen of Greb suggests that Louis is toast. I'll look over my copy of Greb/Tunney and Greb / Walker again, just to confirm, but I'm pretty sure. Easy matchup to call, which is why nobody is commenting.

    :p

No. and Greb would not have beaten that version of Conn either imo.
ps I rate Greb no1 at middle and p4p.

I agree, this came up in another thread where somebody said they thought Greb had a chance against a poor version of Louis... so the thread was born.

Interesting question. What other light heavies would have a shot of beating that version of Louis?

Greb might well have edged Robinson, but Joe Louis is a bridge too far. Most of Greb's big men were in fact light-heavies. A big heavy like Louis with a punch far beyond anything Greb faced is simply asking way too much. However fast Greb was, Louis should be able to go to the body, and it is certainly more than a long shot that Greb would survive if he gets caught and has to survive perhaps the best finisher of all time.

Conn was actually an inch taller and as heavy was Tunney, but I think had faster hands. Conn himself might have been tougher than Tunney for Greb.
