Greb is the best ever, i think, but hes not beating langford at 175; i think...but of course greb might try to fight until repeatedly until he does figure him out !!

Langford. Greb was exceptional but Sam was even better. Greb fought for his life against Norfolk. Sam is an even tougher matchup.

Props to the OP: best matchup thread I’ve seen in some time.

Of course it’s also impossible to really assess without Greb film. I pick Langford on points but not with any confidence as there’s no eye test to make a real judgment.

    a) Langford wins more often than not.
    b) Equal - I have it:
    1. Sugar Ray Robinson
    2a. Henry Armstrong
    2b. Harry Greb
    2c. Sam Langford
    5. Ezzard Charles

That 2nd spot changes all the time for me, so it's fair to say I rank them in the same tier.

Greb had no defense, from what most wrote about him he was extremely fast, and threw so many punhces that his opponents would get overwhelmed and could not keep up, I see this happening to Langford who would not knock out Greb and could not match his volume of punches to win a decision, so Greb by UD all day long!

LOL. Thats funny. He was considered one of the hardest to hit fighters of the era. One reporter described him as a cork bobbing on a rough sea.

Apparently the Tunney and Walker bouts were filmed.

You have to remember how many films are lost in general. I don't think that many of his fights are known to have been filmed.

The films from that era were pretty volatile

He is vs. Sam who I think hit as hard as anyone ever. Just like I feel Dempsey stops Greb . I think Sam was just greater and punch w ise a killer. Sam said, "Kill the body and the head would follow". THAT is his quote. Against Greb he proves it prime for prime..The BOSTON TARBABY by KO over THE WILDEST TIGER.
    P. S. IN THE GREATEST MATCHUP IN BOXING HISTORY!!!!! Another great one is BARBADOS JOE WALCOTT VS. HARRY GREB.
