"Great stories have legs," said Sugar. "Stories are what made the Roaring '20s roar."

Walker's final years were spent in a Freehold, N.J., rest home. When Sugar visited one afternoon, he asked about the Silver Slipper incident.

    "Nah, never happened," Walker said.

It never happened. Walker's wife sat with Jack Kearns (people forget this little fact when the story comes to the part about Walker meeting up with Greb and a couple of dames in the Silver Slipper...) in a nightclub listening to the fight on radio because Kearns was barred from working his corner due to the fact that he wouldnt let Dempsey fight Wills in New York. After the fight Walker, and his cornermen met up with Kearns and his wife. They took Mickey to Polyclinic Hospital to have Walker's numerous cuts stitched up. Afterwards they returned to Mickey's hotel room where his wife and cornermen took turns putting icepacks on Mickey's face and body.

I find it ridiculous that even given the above facts anyone would believe that Walker who had just lost very badly to a bigger, stronger guy would then pick a fight with him later that night on the street where there are no rules and no ref...

It's a great fable ... love the part about the huge Irish cop that breaks it up ...

Didnt happen, The Greb Walker fight in the ring was not even close. Like Klompton said, Greb kick the **** out of Walker in there historic clash.

That would be like Archie Moore picking a fight with Rocky Marciano after there 55 fight. Or Dempsey picking a fight with Tunney after the first fight. And Tunney beat, cut and close Dempsey's eyes in that fight.

I read that Greb was so troubled by weight making that he forsook his usual windmill approach and boxed conservatively for the first third of the fight. This was to husband his stamina, thus giving the initiative ,and early points to Walker would you say that was a fair assesment?
