Well, he only has one of the greatest resumes of all time. Maxie Rosenbloom Mickey Walker Tiger Flowers Tommy Louhgran Gene Tunney Tommy Gibbons Kid Norfolk Billy Miske Battling Levinsky Mike McTigue I'm sure an argument could be made for others. Especially some of his heavyweight wins.
Should I empty the portable toilet into the ventilator and speculate about how good it would have looked if Dempsey had fought him?
I can’t think of any other fighter that I could say this about, but it is genuinely hard to pick ten!
He only has individual wins over Rosenbloom, Walker, Norfolk, Tunney, Flowers, Gibbons 3-13-22: Garden bout, officially took his 0. Miske 03-31-19: Described as the most dominating Greb win of the series. McTigue 12-12-19: Greb won 9 rounds Loughran 01-30-23: An official win described as easy work. Battling Levinsky 09-16-17: A landmark win for Greb.
Reports i have read of the Gibbons 22 bout were not overly flattering to Harry. I would suggest the Brennan fight where he had him on the verge of KO for the final round and won almost every round. Can't remember which of the 5 it was offhand.
Flattering enough. No, you may not. You asked my opinion and I rate the Gibbons win as one of his greatest victories. I don't care if the 163 pound Greb failed to batter Gibbons, Dempsey didn't either, it was said to be a clear fairly wide win, Gibbons winning no more than 5 of the 15 rounds.
Prefer not to answer since all I would have to go by is reports from other journalists, who as we know, can and can't be unbias....
Not sure what unflattering reports you refer a la Gibbons 1922. It was a dominating win over the guy who considered a clear favorite and presumptive hw challenger. It was easily Greb's most publicised victory, moreso even than any of his championship fights, and was impressive enough that off of that single victory he was given a multipart syndicated column, a vaudville tour, a huge welcoming parade in his hometown (virtually unheard of for a non championship fight), and tons of press. Any reports that suggest his win over Tommy was less than impressive are certainly in the minority. Seversl experts called it one of the most impressive performances they had ever seen, including Jack Dempsey.
I'll dig it up in a few. Perhaps you have some insight regarding the writer. I was surprised to read it since I had always heard how well Greb had done. Care to make a list?
