As an american i'd like to chime in on this. If i recall, danny green threw
a ****** wrench in the showdown machine that was building that hopkins/Jones II. Green makes an out of the blue challenge on the phone
of a friend of hopkins in OZ, and lo and behold, hops is VERY interested.
Why? because hopkins has blown a potential fight w/ adamek, said he will not fight dawson, and if he thinks interbox is going to settle for a 40/60
split in montreal for a bute fight, he's got as much brains as pearly whites.
Hopkins needs green as much as green needs hops. Beranrd is NOT a draw. Never has been nor never will be. Hell, more calz fans were in the audience in their fight than nard fans. His last fight in his hometown was a joke. Hopkins is not pacquiao. He NEEDS a dance partner to sell a ticket.
Green is a ticket seller. Therefore, if hopkins can get a purse parity of 60/40, he should be overjoyed that he got that or retire. Cause a haye fight ain't gonna happen! Promise. Green KO'd his money fight with RJJ, so
I'd say that green is def hops best chance for a money fight. And for the record. A fight in OZ is just as lucrative as a bute fight in montreal at a 60/40 for hops( which he won't get ) and it gives hops a chance to grap a decent title at a rank he hasn't fought at yet. So, for the poster that said
hops has nothing to gain by fighting green is dead wrong.
Hold your ground danny green. You've earned it!

Bernard may not be a draw in the states, but we in oz don't get to many chances to an all time great. So if this fight gets made and i buy tix for it.

I will be going to see Bhop not danny.

Good stuff christo, I didn't realise you were American, I noticed your support for Green in the aftermath of the RJJ fight and assumed you were an Aussie.

You're right about Hopkins not being a draw - it wasn't until he signed to fight DLH that he started getting top PPV billing.

The Trinidad fight was his breakthrough fight, but he never really consolidated on it until he fought DLH - look at who he fought between Tito and DLH - Daniels, Hakkar, Joppy, Allen - no superstars there and 4 pretty boring fights IMO.

His style is not spectator-friendly, and it wasn't until he had GBP behind him (after he beat DLH and signed up with them 2 weeks later :hey) that he started fighting big names like Tarver, Wright, Calzaghe, Pavlik.

But look who his last opponent was - Ornelas - he's dropped back down to fighting nobodies, so unless he wants to go out on that note, or fight more nobodies until he decides he's done, he's going to have to realise Green offers more money that he can make elsewhere at this point in time.

You can bet the majority of Australians watching the fight will be watching for Green - they won't know who Hopkins is, only what they will have read in the papers and seen on the news and the publicity in the build up to the fight.

They'll be behind Green and therefore will watch because of him.

Of course, there will be true fans of the sport who will watch to see an old master like Hopkins do his thing, but that's a small minority of the people who will be tuning in.

There will also be the pro-Mundine/anti-Green squad tuning in hoping to see Hopkins beat Green, again, a small minority.

The pubs will be full (again) of casual fans like they were for the Green vs RJJ fight, barracking for Green.

The US PPV market will be made up of:
    • Hopkins fans - not a huge majority by any means, as he is not a huge PPV star in the US (his last fight vs Ornelas wasn't PPV);
    • People who now know who Green is from him stopping RJJ. This latter group will be made up of 2 types - those watching to see Hopkins beat Green because they dislike Green for stopping RJJ and ruining the rematch with Hopkins, and those watching because they are interested in Green.
HBO will market the fight to get maximum patronage, on the back of Green being the guy who stopped RJJ in 1 round and ruining the proposed RJJ-Hopkins rematch.

man i just want Danny to take 60/40 to get Nard here.40 percent of a Hopkins fight is far better than 80 peercent of a Siaca fight.Hopkins is doing the travelling, fighting in hostile territory,Danny ****ed up his 10 million RJJ payday.give the brother a break.:rasta

From what I understand though, Hopkins wants 100% of the HBO PPV money plus 60% of the rest, which includes purse and Aussie PPV.

Also by the sounds of it, it was Shaw working for Green that negotiated the deal with HBO yet Hopkins sat on his ass but wants all the money from it.

This fight will not be on HBO PPV, but probably WCB. And if hops thinks
he's getting all the TV money then he should've just turned the fight down
and announced his retirement. He'll never get ANYONE in the ring with his
attitude. Hops should leave the promoting to schaeffer, and just fight.

I highly doubt Green-Hopkins would be on HBO PPV.

Hopkins isn't much of a draw and Green is an absolute nobody in America...

I read that Hopkins/Green fight would be for some pretty good money in Australia.
