Just as everyone thought they had heard the last of Danny Green, the ‘Green Machine’ is back!

The former IBO Cruiserweight champion will take on 39 year old American, Danny ‘The Bronx Bomber’ Santiago (31-5-1) on Wednesday July 25 in Perth at Light Heavyweight.

Santiago has challenged for a world title three times but has been unsuccessful in all 3 attempts.

“Santiago is a good puncher he has a big name in the States,” Green said. “He’s been in against the best.”

“My mission is to get back on the horse and try my hand at a lower weight class.”

“This will probably be the last time I’ll fight in Perth and maybe Australia. I’m looking at campaigning at Light Heavyweight. I’ve had offers to fight Nathan Cleverley and Jean Pascal.”

Green who made the move to Light Heavyweight after losing to Anthony Mundine is a former world champion at 175lbs (79kg) but after struggling to make the weight he moved up to Cruiserweight where he defended his IBO world title 4 times.

Green admits he came close to retiring.

“I came close to retiring, but the decision in mine,” Green told reporters.

“There’s a couple of fights left in him,” said trainer Angelo Hyder. “He won’t fight forever but he’s got some big offers.”

There had been rumours circulating that Green (31-5) would face Anthony Mundine in a rematch after Danny called him out but these were squashed when Mundine announced his fight with Bronco McKart and the 39 year old Australian decided to look overseas for an opponent.

“He’s running all the way to the United States to get away from me,” said Green. “He called me out and ran away.”

“There’s a goal in sight,” Green continued. “I want to win another world title or to beat the guy [Mundine] that’s running away from me. Mundine starved himself to get away from me.”

Green comes into the fight on a 2 fight losing streak and it will be his first fight since being stopped in the 11th round against WBC Cruiserweight champion, Krzysztof Wlodarczyk after Danny lead on points.

While Santiago has been beaten in 3 of his last 5 fights which included a loss to a former opponent of Danny Green being Antonio Tarver.

I think Pascal is fighting Cloud for his title in August. Should he win that and Danny beat Santiago that would be a good fight.

Angelo hyders gonna keep pushing Danny into fights until he's well and truly punchy or dead. What a dog he is. After the hidings he copped from tarver and wojak hyders first response was "Danny would be crazy to hang em up" yeah good looking out for your mate buddy cause you know that when the "green machine" is done fighting the dregs and the has beens of boxing your out of work. Old honest Danny's at it again ...talks about dropping weight and coming down to light heavy to smoke out the man. Well buddy 84/5kgs is not light heavy and its the same ****en weight you we're when you fought siacca , briggs and flores (minus the 2litres of water you drank before weigh-in)for the cruiser belt. If your that keen offer the karnt 60/40 drop to LHW and then have a presser...

Mundine will distroy green @ light heavy as green will struggle to make the weight and the pressure will again get to him....:D
