He says he'll either get a shot at the title or hang up his gloves. http://www.tulsaworld.com/sports/article.aspx?articleID=20080718_29_B1_hPossi401239
Would be sad - right now I just think he is disappointed that the Pavlik fight didn't amount to anything. Though if he wanted to go somewhere, he shouldn't have lost to Miranda. If there was a medical reason for it, maybe he should stop, but I hope not.
thats too bad... if only he fought with more ferocity or intensity at times he could be very very good.. :/
It does not sound like it is a medical thing. He sounds fustrated with the business. The inactivity will hurt him. I do not understand not wanting to fight on espn2 fnf. Pulling out of a fight last minute the way he did certainly did not help his carrer. A fight or 2 and he would be able to land a major fight. Sounds like a publicity stunt for more money.
If its a medical reason, its understandable, but to leave the game just becasue his not getting a title shot, common, what has he done as of late, he lost his biggest fight against Miranda, a guy who Pavlik detroyed, so it makes no sense for him to get a title shot. Look at Baldomir, the guy went on an 8 year winning streak before he got his shot, I could understand if he complained, but Green has no grounds for any sort of complaint, if anything he should be happy he was considered.
Kinda how I see it, too. ****, being the headliner on ESPN2 for a few fights is generally considered to be the fast track to a title shot by most standards. He's likely only 2-3 wins from getting a title shot as it is even with the layoff. Either he's incredibly impatient, there's more to the medical side than he's letting on, or he's just lost his desire for fighting because he's acting like someone holding out for one last payday before they hang 'em up.
Who cares? He's the 1 who screwed himself...Not wanting to fight on ESPN and then turning down 450,000 plus training expenses to fight Pav WHAT A MORON
1. He said he is to good to fight on ESPN anymore & cancelled at the last minute, even though he could not pay his rent. 2. He actually signed on the dotted line for Greg Leon to be his....." boxing advisor"... 3. The man is obviously a dip****. But will GL stand buy his man & let Green move in with him & Zab after his career is finished. ( which could be any day now)???
Green retire? I thought he had retired. Has he seen his fights since Codrington? I have. I'm surprised he could garner a $450,000 plus training expenses offer to fight Pavlik. It's too bad Allan thinks he should get world champion money before he is one. Or that he should be respected for what he did years ago, but can't do now. As Ms. Jackson would ask, "what have you done for me lately?"
I doubt it'll happen. Sounds to me like the guy is just a little bummed out that he didn't get a shot at the title. He'll snap out of it soon enough.. and if the guy wants to get a crack at the big time I suggest he fights more often against more formidable opponents instead of just waiting around for someone to hand him a shot at a title.
Hope he does get himself back in the mix....would def be a shame....there are still fights out there for him...let him waste a few of those over hyped fighters (tsypko, vera, duddy) an earn some money!!?
He should retire . . . I lost my interest on him after that humilating performance against Miranda. He could have won that fight if he only kept busy throwing punches . . . but no he was very passive . . . kept looking down on his goddam foot . . . so he got served.
