If possible. :good I was mildly interested in the co-feature (Shane Cameron vs. Anthony McCracken) but apparently it's going to air very early on the card instead of right before the main event, to accommodate Cameron's fanbase in New Zealand. I'm not getting up at 4am just for that. :yep Flores and Green should be making their way to the ring around 7am EST.
yeah, no way am I waking up extra early to see Cameron/McCracken. so 6am my time, huh? going to be tough but I want to see Flores take the title from Green
I didn't catch it in time to do a full RBR, but it's now into the sixth and Flores is backing him up consistently with his jab and slamming Green to the ropes with right hands, with Green fighting his way off in spurts.
Green explodes out of the corner to start the 7th with a straight combo that lands. Flores doesn't look hurt and continues to come forward, but throws only a few jabs. Green stays coiled while backing up to the ropes, looking to catch Flores coming in with a right hand but telegraphing it enough that Flores is wary of it. Flores tries to hook his way in to the body and the two land hooks simultaneously.
This is playing out oddly. Flores keeps leading (but very tentatively, only jabbing) and Green continues to retreat and counter-punch throughout the 8th. There are brief moments where both let their hands go but it's mostly nervous energy with both missing a fair bit. Flores lands a nice right hand. Green lands a left hook and a double jab flush on the chin of Flores, who seems to be disregarding Green's power a bit now and rushing inside a bit more eagerly. They land together at the bell (a hook for Flores and a right for Green) and continue to slap each other in the clinch.
Flores doesn't seem to get the whole thing about fighting in Green's backyard. This content is protected
BJ keeps advancing with the jab. Green keeps stepping away and trying to lay traps on the ropes, slipping and throwing hooks out of a high guard. Flores lands a few right hands to the head and body but mostly jabs and misses as Green dodges and throws very little back. Green is probably landing at a higher clip just by being so much more selective.
It's still a low-speed chase and a lazy-jabbing contest, with a few isolated moments of fierce melee (mostly sound and fury, hitting nothing). Flores is still the aggressor and still not taking too many chances. Green is still seeking out the ropes and bouncing off them to throw intermittent counters. Both landed a handful of decent punches but nothing eye-popping.
The championship rounds would be where to pick up the intensity, but...that isn't happening either way. Green turns both shoulders forward alternately to slip punches that aren't even coming at him. Flores jumps in with jabs and is held at bay by the counters of Green (which are more flailing/confusing motion than attempts to really catch Flores cleanly). Green's jab does get in a couple of times right on the nose. Flores lands a couple of right hands, but glancing.
