Wait til the opposition aren't ready: Mundine is underweight and Khoder overseas; and offer a very public challenge that sounds too fair to the public to refuse, and perhaps too good for team Mundine to refuse also!

According to Daily Telegraph 11th Feb 2010:

Secret talks over Mundine v Green II

IS THE long-awaited rematch between two of Australia's most popular boxers - Danny Green and Anthony Mundine - finally about to happen?

Just when it seemed Green and Mundine II would never eventuate, The Daily Telegraph understands the two camps have been in regular contact in recent weeks.

The return multi-million-dollar bout has again been revisited with the return fight to be even bigger and more lucrative than their 2006 blockbuster in Sydney.

Green last night said his next opponent would be announced "in the next 10 days".

After stunning the world when he knocked out Roy Jones Jr inside two minutes last December, Green has had Bernard Hopkins dodge a trip to Australia as well as Antonio Tarver knock back "a lucrative pay-day" to face the Perth slugger. Hopkins - "The Executioner" - will now fight Jones Jr in the US next month.

Green, who is expected in Sydney next week, would not rule out Mundine as an opponent, but did his best to throw cold water on the idea.

"After I demolished Mundine's idol Roy Jones Jr, it's only driven him further away from me," Green said.

"He has lived off one past glory, and that's beating me when I was only a shell of myself.

"He's milked it for four years and will continue to milk it - until there is only yoghurt left."

The huge sticking point for the fight to take place is weight - given Green won at cruiserweight and Mundine's last victory over Rob Medley was at middleweight.

But the pair have a well-documented hatred for one another and their high profiles would guarantee a huge purse.

Lets hope its later in the year...after Mundine get a vacant shot at MW and the WBA title....then moves up to SMW to fight Woods on his way to LHW I guess for the fight with Green.

They could fight at a minimum catch weight at CW of 80kgs so it would be for the IBO title but Khoder may have done his dash with the IBO over the Medley drama.

Either way, LHW or CW Mundine out moves Green all day in a repeate of the first fight....yes Green will be bigger and stronger and yes he will swing for the hills but Mundine wont be in the way when the punches come :deal

What a huge payday for both guys.....this is great news for aussie boxing

Assuming the challenge is delivered, the timing couldn't be much better for Green.

The weight will be perhaps the most interesting aspect of the pre-match. Assuming Green's cruiserweight title is part of the carrot, it could offer both fighters the option of fighting at their own prefered weights, as they'll both fit easily under the cruiser limit.

If Green is able to go in 'big' and manages to catch Mundine like he did Roy Jones, it'll be an early night IMO. If not, it could be a case of the evassive Mundine of their first encounter accumulating points in most rounds.

Bring it on - may the best man win!

I'm still not sure how I feel about this.

I would have preferred Green fought Hopkins and/or Tarver (or even Johnson) but obviously not to be as they both fell through.

I wouldn't like to see Green vs Briggs unless Briggs was healthy.

I eventually would like to see this rematch, but not so soon.

I give Green a very good chance of winning by KO if it's at LHW or above e.g. pseudo-CW :yep

That looks like a doctored pic to me - Green wasn't as filled out as that when he and Mundine faced off for their fight, plus Green is taller than Mundine.

It looks like someones just cobbled together a shot of Green from one of his LHW fights and a shot of Mundine.

Mate you would have to think its at a weight above 175....lets hope its at CW....that way nobody can argue this time when Mundine beats Green again

I think if its for a world title (IBO) it gives it that much more cred

There's no point Green taking anything less than a $BIG fight at this point in time. KOing RJJ ensures that, even if the resultant fight is Green v Mundine II.

Asssuming Green v Mundine II does actually takes place:

*If Green wins (particularly in one sided fashion) - it's hard to see Mundine going on IMO - except maybe to Green v Mundine III, and perhaps under a lower catch-weight agreement.

*If Mundine wins (particularly in one sided fashion) - it's hard to see Green going on full stop IMO.

A big fork in the road fight for both IMO!

Dont agree mate....Mundine will be coming up from MW to fight 2 or 3 divisions higher....no problem if he gets wooped.....however if Mundine comes up and woops Green then Green may have some problems

If the fight is close then a rematch would be great as well.

The biggest problem wil be getting the Mundine camp to agree to giving Green the $5,000,000 he wants for the fight.

    Agree with your logic above.

At present, and unlike a few years back, Green holds all the Aces in the negotiations. He's the only one with a title. Plus he's flavour of the month at present with his win over Roy.

For Mundine, with Green's new found overseas fame as a result of icing Roy, it's actually an opportunity to open some overseas doors for himself IMO (assuming he actually wants to).
