that was years ago.he cant beat Green read somewhere his last fight was at MW.THIS FIGHT IS A JOKE.to try and get Mundine to fight him.Green should be more like Vic.Vic wants Donaire and has repeatedly called him out(but doesnt want himto move up 2 divisions)but has now said if he doesnt take his offer in 2 months hes moving up to BW.Danny needs to forget Mundine.
The Kessler fight was the first fight Roy Jones senior worked with him, and it was RJS who put the idea into Mundine's head of moving down to MW. Up until that point, I don't think Mundine had ever thought of moving weight divisions, which is why he faced Kessler IMO. I also believe he was under a bit of financial pressure to take the big fights - I remember there was a possibility of the Siaca fight actually takng place in the US if it wasn't held by a certain date (Don King was behind it), and Mundine had to make it happen otherwise he could have ended up in financial strife.
i still am shocked that green is fighting siaca. i wouldn't pay to watch it with somebody elses money. it's terrible. i like green but i'm very dissappointed with him choosing siaca.
Yes & no Stifler. Most Aussies would like to see Green step-up and take on the world. But we saw from the response of the big names that they aren't interested in fighting Green. Don't forget for a second that the whole reason Green came back was for Mundine II! Even though the goalposts might have been moved around a bit here and there since Green's comeback, the objective hasn't changed - it's still ultimately about Green v Mundine II, and the big bucks that go with it!
Some interesting stuff from around the time of the Mundine vs Siaca fight: http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2004/04/24/1082719673954.html?from=storyrhs "Boxing promoter Don King is threatening to derail Anthony Mundine's first world-title defence. King claims he has a contract with Mundine's opponent, Manny Siaca, that would be breached if the fight went ahead in nine days at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. King's lawyers have written to Mundine's manager, Khoder Nasser, demanding that he "immediately ceases and desists from such tortious interference with Don King's contractual rights". King claims to own exclusive promotional rights to Siaca's fights, but Nasser, who has repeatedly tried - unsuccessfully - to contact King, has not seen any proof of that."
Here's another article showing that Mundine was looking to put off the Kessler fight for as long as possible - a rematch with Siaca and a fight with Green being mentioned as possibilities before enforcing his right as Kessler's mandatory. I remember when he got back from watching Kessler vs Siaca, he seemed to go into a frenzy of activity looking for fights, which appeared to me at the time that he was looking for any way out of facing Kessler. http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2004/12/15/1102787148252.html "Anthony Mundine is set to risk a guaranteed world title bout for a shot at redemption against Manny Siaca. Mundine, who lost his super-middleweight crown to Siaca in a split points decision at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on May 5, will announce at a press conference in Newcastle today details of his next fight. The February 2 bout is a warm-up for his world title fight against Mikkel Kessler, the Danish boxer who won the WBA belt from Siaca with an eighth-round TKO last month in Copenhagen. Mundine has given permission for Kessler to stage a non-mandatory defence before they meet, provided he does so before the end of February and he then agrees to a title fight within a further 120 days."
Kessler never went for the deal of taking a non-mandatory defence before facing Mundine, and I seem to remember Siaca was injured and couldn't rematch Mundine (?) and Mundine ended up fighting Darmel Castillo before fighting Kessler. Seriously, Mundine seemed to go into a panic after he saw Kessler beat Siaca. He looked nervous as hell before the Kessler fight too - you watch when he's in the ring waiting for Kessler to come out, he's shitting bricks.
Of course he was shitting bricks....Kess beat the crap out of Siaca while choc failed to make an impact on him...choc showed guts to take the fight :deal
There was a great window for Mundine to get out of the Kessler fight when Kessler himself got injured and the fight had to be postponed for a month. If he really wanted not to fight him, he simply wouldnt have. Watching him drop weight and give up his belt to avoid him in the rematch is proof that Mundine has/had no qualms whatsoever about giving up such things like mandatory's, belts, etc.
Um, Mundine was campaigning at SMW for the WBA. Kessler was the WBA's SMW titleholder. Mundine was Kessler's mandatory defence. Fighting Kessler was what he was supposed to do - it was his job, the career he chose to follow.
Nah, he was already financially committed to fighting Kessler, and as mentioned before, dropping a division wasn't an option at that point in his career as he hadn't thought of it. He'd only ever talked about moving up to LHW (one of his New Year's resolutions was to unify SMW and move up to unify LHW by year's end ). He's been showing his true colours ever since Kessler became his mandatory though, diving down to MW to avoid rematching him.
CP :hi: So full of ****, he fought kessler and came to fight, so you can't keep claiming he was trying to duck etc. We all know what happened after he challenged Green, the residue of which bring us the mega fight that is Green vs siaca. Mundine vs Green in theory was supposed to be an all australian super middleweight unification match so kessler had to be fought as did beyer. Time to crawl back under your rock. :happy
FFS this is a Green-Siaca thread why are we even mentioning Mundine ??Mundine ran from a second fight with Kessler Green went into phony retirement without defending his title because he was scared Garay.Green will beat Siaca.Green will beat Cameron if he sheds 15kg.Green will not get a even purse if Mundine gains weight and fights him at CW.but he may win Mundine is on the decline.
