Not surprisingly it was the same guy that predicted only last year that a much maligned Australian fighter, most famous for wasting his prime, could beat Cotto & Margarito atsch. ...and yes agreed, he certainly seems to know nothing about boxing going by his recent comments.
Green prepares for his closest fight yet By Nathan Ryan 3 May 2011 06:07PM EST Share DANNY Green is knee deep in preparation for what he says will be the closest fight of his career with American Antonio Tarver. This content is protected Danny Green is eyeing a comeback to the boxing ring after having a health scare Getty Images Prev Next Professionally, Green has not boxed since his 12th round unanimous points decision over American BJ Flores last year. It has been well documented that after Green had his appendix removed early this year due to a softball sized abscess growing off it he may have never returned to the squared circle. Yet four months after the ordeal he is back and training for what he says will be the closest fight of his career. Against Roy Jones I was the five to one underdog and against Antonio Tarver Im maybe the favourite, he told sportsnewsfirst.com.au. This fight is a 50-50 fight. Being a close fight the question begs to be asked, what will it come down to at the end of the night? It depends on hunger and preparation, Green said. If you prepare properly and do the hard yards it comes down to whos got the bigger balls and whos the better fighter. Tarver, a 1996 Olympic Games bronze medallist and former IBO, IBF, WBA, WBC light heavyweight champion, will fight in Australia for the first time when their pair comes to blows at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on July 20. Comments by his 42-year-old opponent - that Green is too wild in his overhand rights - have been dismissed by Green although he is ready to uses them if he sees an opportunity. Hes been watching my old tapes, said Green. I think my style as been pretty composed until were trading blows and we hit the trenches and Ive got the guy home, then I tend to let them go from everywhere. Ive never been cut; I havent received a truck load of damage so I dont think I have been as wild as some This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected or Tarver Ill have to be a little bit heavier, Green said. Hes 63, he can get up to 98-100kg no problem so by the weigh in hell be cruiserweight or under and in the next 30 hours before the fight hell put on more weight but I wont put on a thing but where I weigh in at is probably where Ill fight at. Green who has knocked out Roy Jones Jnr has his IBO Cruiserweight title on the line against the man who first achieved that feat in 2004. To combat the man Green has enlisted the services of a number of fighters to help him prepare. Hes not a very orthodox fighter; he throws punches from all different angles, he said. The challenge is getting a guy sparring with whose very difficult to hit and to take down and pounce the ropes because Tarvers a very skilful fighter. "Ive got a lot of respect for the guys talents and the guys skill, power and what hes done in the game. http://www.sportsnewsfirst.com.au/articles/2011/05/03/green-prepares-for-his-closest-fight-yet/ fro This content is protected
i dont think he should be hall of fame. he's got a few good wins but outside of jones and johnson its nothing special. i bet there are plenty of people who know heaps about boxing who would agree with me. i guess if green beats him then he will be a HOF'er to right?
4 time lhw champion and named lhw of the decade, but YOU dont think he should be hall of fame. ill call the comittee and let them know you dont approve . theres also plenty of people who know heaps about history who deny the holocaust occurred, it doesnt make them correct. Nobody is saying that green will be in the HOF but i think its excellent for boxing that hes bringing these names out to australia.
