AAP Tues 24th June: Boxer Danny Green says he will consider making a return to the ring after Anthony Mundine's camp sent him an "extremely lucrative" contract for a rematch.

Less than four months after announcing his retirement, Green said the lure of the big-money fight may prove too hard to resist.

Green said he will now go on a surfing holiday with his family before making a decision.

"It's almost a ridiculous offer at the moment," Green said of the contract sent to him.

The 35-year-old, who snared the WBA light heavyweight world title when he defeated Croatia's Stipe Drews last March, said the fight would be held in Western Australia if it eventuated.

    * Comments: Everyone's got their price it seems!!

Does anyone else think this shows how desperate Mundine is for fights he knows he'll win?

If Green does come out of retirement (which seems almost inevitable now) I will be a bit disappointed.

But I shall take great consolation out of the fact that after all these years of Mundine claiming so-and-so wasn't worth the money, and that he wasn't going to pay nobody's retirement fund, and that he is da money man, here he is throwing money at Green to get him out of retirement for another fight.

All those Mundine nuthuggers who reckoned Mundine was the draw in the Green vs Mundine fight - think again :yep

Do they know it though? I'm not sold on the fact that the general public will eat this crap up again. Most people I know, not necessarily boxing fans think it's a farce of a fight too. I am starting to believe that they wont make the money they think they will...

i guess they probably know better than me and i'm probably once again giving the general public more credit than what they're due...

Hard to disagree with either of the above two posts!

Danny Green had a terrific career - with the recent Mundine fight one of the few blemishes - though I'm sure he gave it his best shot.

Bought his book the other day and read it in a few sittings - great book - and sounded very sincere - including about his retirement.

    Mundine...now there's a different animal altogether!

I hope Danny's got the character and resolve to tell them to keep their rotten money (find another cash cow Anthony) - but only time will tell.

It all sounds interesting, but what weight is the contract slated for. Danny couldn't go below LH and Mundine is talking about moving down to MW. Perhaps a catch weight between LH and SMW?

Ah well everyone has their price it seems , but as a Danny Green fan from way back im just a bit disapointed in the way he went around this , chucking a legit title in the bin rather than defend it was a bit of a pisser in the first place , wouldn't he have earned even more money ( Overseas TV Money inc ) if he had made a defence of his title once and then defended V Mundine @ L/Heavy , the WBA obviously rate Mundine ( As a their then regular champ) and would have no doubt installed him high enough in their rankings to get this one on properly . i realise your a long time retired but this is a crazy way of going around things , was this pre planned in advance to Danny's bogus retirement ?

    Josey,

As you said "everyone has their price it seems".

You also said "wouldn't he have earned even more money ( Overseas TV Money inc ) if he had made a defence of his title once and then defended V Mundine @ L/Heavy" - the reality it would seem, is no.

As far as "Danny's bogus retirement" goes, I guess we'll never know. I'd like to think he was genuine in what he said (both in interviews & his book) about retirement, and that the Mundine offer came later and was just too good to refuse.

I just hope it doesn't end up being a case of Danny Green swapping his health & wellbeing for money!

Geez I wouldn't mind seeing a fully fit LHW Green squash the smaller SMW/MW fly-like Mundine in a rematch :yep

Mundine's nuthuggers could moan all they like about size-difference, just seeing it would be enough for me
