Former WBA light-heavyweight and interim WBC super-middleweight champion Danny Green (25-3, 22 KOs) told Australian radio station 6PR Radio yesterday that he would make an announcement about his ring return by the end of February. He stated on air, “I will have a decision within the next month whether I am going to scrap it and stay retired, or whether I decide to step back in the ring. There has been so much talk about a re-match with Anthony Mundine that I must make a decision - once and for all.” It is rumoured that the previous $5m offer for “The Green Machine” to take on Mundine (34-3, 23 KOs) was re-iterated by Team Mundine, as recently as two weeks ago and that Green has been sparring in Perth to see if he still wants to continue in the sport in 2009. Former two time WBA 168 pound champion Mundine takes on fellow Aussie Shannon Taylor in Sydney on February 11th and given the first Green-Mundine fight generated over $10m in Australia, many predict that the fight will be inked in 2009, possibly after Danny Green completes a couple of warm up bouts.

Why wouldn't he?
He's only 36, and Mundine ain't a big hitter.
Even if he lost again, he certainly wouldn't suffer any health problems from it.

He has nothing to lose and everything to gain from this fight.
5 Mil, and if he wins he redeems himself, if he loses it just proves he can't stand with Mundine, it's not like he hasn't done that before.

He should do it, work his ass off and belt the **** out of Mandy.

Apart from the 5 mil, why is Mandy chasing this fight so desperately?

because it will make him look good to the average punter.even though he shamelessly ducked kessler your average man on the street doesnt know about that because boxing is not a high profile sport in australia but everyone knows the mundine and green rivalry and choc thinks that will keep the punters happy when he beats him again.go to your local and ask the front bar about vic darchynian and you will get blank stares but they all know green and mundine.good business i guess.

Choc made $6.25 million for the first one so he will be making a hell of alot more then 5 for II .... My guess is somewhere in the 7-8 mill range.

You reckon Mundine would be making that much if he's offering Green 5mil?
I can't see it myself, but then I'm not sure what would be up for grabs in total.

Apart from $5MIL?????????????????

Mundine's record & opponent preferences have invariably been about two things:

1/ Safe fights.
2/ $$$

...and not necessarilly in that order.

As for Danny...he probably shouldn't do it...but for $5M...he probably will.

Green should stay retired otherwise his decision to reliquinsh his world title belt with no defences makes no sense at all. He will never beat mandy, never!

Mundine was questioned on Radio a while about how much he earned for his fight with Green and he said it was no where near 5 mill.
