Yep sorry your correct Francis apparently ODH - Floyd is the biggest selling PPV fight EVER inc the heavies 2.5 million worldwide hits
Because we'd storm the ramparts about the rip-off involved. To my understanding ME keep 50% of any PPV sold. That figure may differ with Mundine who is guaranteed a certain % (possibly 60-65%) up to and including x (have mentioned this number previously but can't remember atm) number of buys. Credit Khoder for that, hes no dummy. They don't have to release figures and they never will. While I'm not that up to speed with how they operate, they don't rely on advertising revenue so they don't need viewing figures to give advertisers, therefore all their buy rates are kept in house. If they did release them to private ad agencies we'd know for sure. The reason I included the top 5 figures for Pay-tv was to show that the 800,000 buy figure is ludicrous, maybe 800,000 viewers (and thats a big maybe) but no way 800,000 buys. Comparing the highest rating foxtel show ever (Aus vs Uzbek soccer) to normal free to air, that wouldn't be break the top 50 shows of a normal weeks ratings, probably much lower. Heres last weeks national ratings; http://www.thinktv.com.au/media/Media_Releases/2009-0014_MED_Week_21_2009-Weekly_Ratings_Report.pdf The 40th ranked tv show, Missing Pieces had 1,077,000 viewers so Pay TVs audiences are way, way behind. On the left of that list is the market share of each channel, Fox Sports2 is the leading pay tv channel with a 0.9 which is 20% of SBS' average numbers. IMO they'll charge whatever highway robbery price they are for Valuev-Maskaev because of the tenuous local link with Kali Meehan beeing involved, despite it being on at 6am or whenever it is. Is it fair? No. What can you do about it? Easy, don't buy it. If they continually keep sending up **** and no-one buys it, they'll soon change. But even if 1000 people buy it thats 20,000 grand they've made on a Sunday morning, with the other $20G going to the promotional company. The interesting thing about all this was Ch.10s decision to last year show Klitschko vs Thompson free and live. That to me says its not such a stretch for a FTA station to take up the telecast, unfortunately it'll have to be cheap as ad rates at that hour are low as, why do you think we have home shopping and religious shows on at those times of the morning. Its cheaper for them to buy the whole hour than for the channel to run an old movie or tv show and rely on whatever advertising they can squueze in 3 or 4 times an hour. Recently I burnt a lot of stuff to disc that was recorded from Fox just a few years ago, and was amazed at the quantity and quality of stuff that was shown for free once upon a time. Since then some bright sparks set us to drip feed but I wouldn't lay all the blame at Main Events feet, its quite possible the decison was made by overseas based PPV companies. Check out Thomas Hausers articles on HBO and how they're set up, the situation wouldn't be too far removed from here.
Cheers Leon, fox sports friday night fights, as in the american cards seem very few and far between these days and seem to be (correct me here if i'm wrong) mainly showtime cards not hbo cards.
ESPNs FNFs are two weeks behind, havn't checked Friday night this week but it should be; Jorge Luis Teron vs Aldo Valtierra Kevin Johnson vs Devin Vargas John Lennox vs Robert Brown Next week should have last weeks 'Cuban' card, featuring Lara and the debut of Rigondeaux. I've put a post up in the tv guide with Fox's scheduled June o/s cards which include; Yuriorkis Gamboa v Jose Rojas Nonito Donaire v Raul Martinez Carl Froch v Jermain Taylor
The answer is simple. DON'T buy inferior products. Download the fights the next day for free and just avoid the result. To think that Mirovic-Hoppa and Haumono-Couser were PPV is just ridiculous. The folks at main event and the promoters etc etc must be laughing their heads off. Don't allow this **** to continue.
you're exactly right.the only 4 people that think this will happen are left jab danny and shiner.greens next opponent will not be RJJ.
Sounds like GREEN vs RJJ is dead, at least for now: BoxRec have Jeff Lacy listed as Roy Jones Jnr's next opponent, scheduled for 22nd Aug '09.
...adding to that...the latest is GREEN to fight on the RJJ vs LACY undercard (New Orleans 22nd Aug). http://www.fightnews.com/?p=12122
GREEN's likely movements have been talked about some more in the media today. Seems highly likely he'll fight on the RJJ vs LACY undercard (New Orleans 22nd Aug) so as to gain extra exposure in the USA. Next step would be a late '09 match-up with RJJ (probably December). If GREEN vs JONES Jnr does come about, and Melbourne has been suggested as the venue, it'd be some spectacle, even though both are well past their best.
Here he is, the ****wit who was supposed to be so close to Danny that he knew all the inside info as well as left jab Danny. Weren't you going to leave the forum if he came out of retirement? You are right about one thing, Green may have to play another card, continue to fight bums in Perth where dumb ****s will fork out money to see him fight while calling out Mundine in the media and demanding he go up two weight divisions.
I'm hearing Green will rematch Otis Griffin on the RJJ/Lacy card with the winners to face each other. Griffin is coming off a controversial loss to Lacy.
