Page takes a decision in a competitive, technical bout that only has a few occasional spikes of action. Can't see either guy trying to throw a lot of bombs or go for a KO unless it was right there for the taking (and I doubt there'd be any knockdowns let alone a knockout since Page had a very good chin and Mathis was feather fisted, quick and cagey). It may resemble Page's fight with Tubbs. Page's heavy jab and combinations give him the edge over the sometimes passive Mathis. Probably a 7 rounds to 5 type of verdict.
Something happened to the post I made earlier, I do hope it was not offensive in any way. I called it the Battle of the Pansas (Stomach's). I pointed out that I hope that they did not play music to Buster Mathis Sr, like they did on Nov 17 1971 when Mathis Sr fought Muhammad Ali. I think Greg Page edges Buster on points, better speed.
Pager takes a clear UD in a dull fight. I always liked Greg. He just had that bit more athleticism and fluidity than Buster.
I like Page here but most of all I like that I never have to see this fight. Sounds like a snoozer. Winner gets Leroy Jones … which might disincentivize them both to the point that it would be a draw with no punches thrown.
