Rankings don't really work to denote quality.
Whyte has been incredibly well managed and favoured.
He is maybe ever so slightly better than Chisora, who probably hasn't been ranked in same period.
5 years ago Whyte couldn't even score a convincing win over Chisora.

Going 1-1 against a shot 40+ Povetkin should have put an end to this Whyte hype, which really was only ever piggybacking on the immense AJ hype anyway.

    Exactly.
Whyte is a good British-level heavyweight, nothing much more.

Whyte is a British level fighter who benefited from a very slim Hw divsion .Page at his best would completely outclass him . Currie and notice would have good chance with him. Mason and Bruno might use him as sparing .

He has benefited from his association with AJ, Matchroom, SKY and that entire hype machine.
And some close dubious decisions along the way.
    In a shallow HW division.

I think Greg Page was the most overrated American heavyweight of that era, apart from Gerry Cooney. His style was lazy, a bit amateurish, and he was a bum when it comes to conditioning.
But clearly at his best he was a couple of levels above Dillian Whyte, he was legitimate world class at his best.

It is funny but imagine if Notice and Currie had come along in this era. They would have been "pay per view" multimillionaires on SKY!
