He had a lot of trouble with Tillis and was way behind against Tate. Mike was flat footed. If Page weighs 225-230 and uses movement I could see him outpointing Weaver.
Page was supposed to fight Mike for the title in 1982, but Dokes got his title shot. If motivated, I think Page takes Weaver out from anywhere between 5-8 rounds. If not, Weaver outhustles him for a UD.
Page UD. Page would outbox an inactive Weaver. Weaver might spring into action in the last 3 rounds or so, but not to enough to win a decision and I foresee no miracles for Mike here. Greg was just too tough. If it went 15, maybe Weaver could stop Page. Who knows?
Tough one but I'll take Page. I remembered him being unmotivated and a waste of talent. Was surprised when I watched a number of his fights in the last six months. He was much better than I remembered. Weaver wouldn't have pressured him the way Berbick did. Page by decision.
I like an in-shape Page too. He had a higher gear and presents a lot of matchup problems with his movement, jab and combo punching. As noted, Mike was flat-footed and kind of fought in one gear. But he had enough power to take you out or at least keep you honest, and he was going to be in it looking for opportunities the whole way. Page is all kinds of wrong for Mike, IF Page is focused and in shape (which wasn’t the majority of the time).
I strongly believe that Weaver's not achieving more success is entirely due to his lack of aggression. He was really a great fighter all around. He was powerful, fast, very accurate, and high-stamina. He had a fair chin as well and a tremendous jab that he rarely showed. He was also a good body puncher and fair on the inside. He had all the tools, but just wouldn't use them when he was not threatened much.
Weaver wins a 15 round decision. Weaver was the more solid, rounded, professional, more substance to his game. Page was a bit amateurish, all flash, a lazy style.
