on the under card of the Ali vs, Berbick fight.did any one here see this fight?Page played and toyed with LeDoux before stopping him in rd. 4 any thoughts on the fight.
I recently saw this fight thanks to JT. Page showed not only the speed but also the showboating of Ali. I felt a bit sorry for LeDoux who was trying but the gap in talent was just so gigantic. The fact that LeDoux was gifted a titleshot was pretty ridiculous too, but who would he be to turn that down?
I saw the fight... it was pretty funny watching Page humiliate LeDoux. Greg had boobies then (not just late in his career).
I saw Scott alot in Minneapolis when we were both in the golden gloves. Just a great guy. Don Riley once wrote of him, "Scott went further with less then almost any other fighter." This made Scott mad but ya know, it really was true. Greg just had too much natural talent for Scott and landed that huge right hand to end it. Too bad Greg didn't hook up with a great trainer when he was younger who could have disciplined him in the finer points of the sport, etc.
Greg Page did put up an impressive performance, but he should have gotten LeDoux out of there by the second round. It wasn't as impressive as his fight with Marty Monroe, but it was funny watching him humiliate Scott, especially at the end.
Page looked good, though at 231, I think, he was a bit too heavy.LeDoux showed some heart, as usual, but was overmatched by a peaking Page.
Page really wiped out LeDoux, beat him to the punch, stunned him, cut him, hurt him with every shot thrown. LeDoux was next to helpless in there. I thought Page's efforts to humiliate LeDoux -- such as wiggling the hips, etc. -- were in bad taste. The ref should have deducted a point from Page for that behavior. Still, it was impressive to see Page so easily dominate a solid top-15 performer like LeDoux.
Yes I agree on all points. Page looked great in this fight. LeDoux probably never gives Page a tough fight, in truth. His style was all wrong for Page, who was much faster and would refuse to slug it out.
I believe Holmes "gifted" LeDoux that title shot -- and he was in the top 10, so he was qualified -- because Scott's wife had cancer and they needed the money. Classy move if you ask me. Nothing ridiculous about helping out a fellow human being in need.
Page, even on bad day, was way better than Ledoux. Page was punished in his career by not signing with Don KIng, who controlled heavyweights then. He signed with Arum, who had all the lower weight tile holders signed. I wonder if he would have let self go so much if he had title?
I was impressed with Greg Page's talent, but when I saw him fight at the Sports Arena in Los Angeles during the early part of his career, his weight was 237 pounds. That was a wake up moment for me. Afterwards, I felt that Page didn't have the dedication to be a great fighter. - Chuck Johnston
Although Page had great talent, his humiliation of Ledoux was senseless. Greg, like so many others, threw his very real chances away that he had for fame and fortune. He death at 50 was truly pathetic. His is a sad story, indeed.
