Within today's cruiserweight weigh-in range, say 70/71 Peralta and 87/88 De Leon. Granted, I can see this thread dying a 0-2 comment, six-hour death, but I'm in the kind of thread-doom-bravery mood that leaves me throwing it out there anyway. :yep
Yeah, I don't think you will get many responses to this. Now let's see. Carlos DeLeon was a good fighter. The best modern Cruiser till Qawi and Holyfield came along. Gregorio Peralta was a good LHW who lost to Willie Pastrano. Pastrano was a clever boxer as was Peralta. Maybe, Peralta was a little green then. We must remember he went on to fight HWs and put in quite respectable performances, including his two efforts against a rampaging George Foreman. My pick would be Peralta. DeLeon wouldn't be able to outbox Peralta. And he couldn't have stopped or knocked him out. Gregorio would have been too clever for him. Gregorio Peralta UD win over Carlos DeLeon.
Actually, Peralta, though losing that rematch with Pastrano, was coming on in the last two rounds before it was stopped and many thought the stoppage was BS..this is from what I read in a SI Vault story from '64. Willie looked great in the first few rounds and opened a cut..and the fight was stopped with Peralta getting stronger...and the match was held in Willie's home toen of New Orleans.
