I had forgotten about this guy. He was a very slick boxer with miminal power. He upset Harold Petty and Oscar Muniz fairly early in his career at Bantamweight. He finally got a title shot against the bigger Super Bantamweight Champion Jeff Fenech but was overpowered. beat respectable contender Gaby Canizales. Then at age 35, he upset Miguel "Happy" Lora conquerer Raul Perez to win the WBC Bantamweight title, only to lose it later in the year after one defense to a Japanese novice Joichiro Tatsuyoshi with only eight fights. Got one more title shot and lost a decision to tough Korean WBC Super Bantamweight Champion Sun Kil Moon.

Overall a good career for this forgotten fighter.

Gaby Canizales was a bit better than 'respectable contender'.

And Moon was super flyweight champ.

    Jose Canizales >> Orlando Canizales
He not only KOd legit opponents (Orlando never fought any @ 118 ) , but ended 2 such opponents' careers.

You're right Moon was a super flyweight. But by the time Canizales and Richardson fought in 1989, Canizales was past his prime and was a fringe contender. I should have said former champion rather than respectable contender. I forgot about his title win over the severely weight drained Richard Sandoval.
