Can't knock them a bit for it given the environment, man's gotta eat. It's just funny to me how Hall of Fame matchups need the stars to line up to happen once in today's game, but for those guys, it was Tuesday.

When Joe Louis gave a fighter a rematch there was some understanding to it. Fighters who gave him a good go and/or worked their way back into contention such as Bob Pastor, Arturo Godoy, Buddy Baer, Max Schmeling, Billy Conn and Jersey Joe Walcott. However, the Abe Simon bout didn't make much sense. It was said that he gave Louis a good fight, although he was down in the 1st, 3rd and twice in the 13th. However, it wasn't an immediate rematch. Louis defended his title 5 times before they met again. And in that time Simon had his arse handed to him by Lem Franklin. He certainly did not deserve the rematch at that point. The only thing I can put this down to was Louis had really run out of challengers, Simon looked imposing, and they had a pretty good gate the first time around. But at 15-1 odds, everyone knew what the outcome was going to be.

In recent times I always thought Mayweather v Maidana 2 was pointless.
