Groves hasn't looked good since he left booth. The last fight booth trained groves was the 1st fight with froch and groves was amazing. I no they split two weeks before the fight. But booth basically trained him for the majority of his camp. Ever since groves has gone to ****. Is Fitzpatrick not up to the job? Does this prove the difference Adam booth makes? So do you think groves has been cobrahed??? Or is it simply because he is not trainin with the dark lord??
He looked awful again, I was there and trust me when I say this the difference between him and degale was night and day. Callum smith ruins him as well based on last two fights.
My observations on it are; groves is a born and bread long range fighter with his hardest and most damaging punch being the straight right. The more he works on close up hooks and inside work the more awkward and unnatural he seems. He loses control a lot and then looks like a ragidy fighter. Not sure why they don't stick to the outer distance work even when on the front foot. They could still use that power to keep the opponent at range and drive them back. Similar to what he was doing to Froch in the first half of the first fight. Boxing in my opinion is making the opponent fight your fight and have them be out of rhythm.
Wouldn't really say he's gone to **** since leaving Booth? I had him up against Froch in the 2nd fight, fighting more of a tactical fight and to a game plan before he got laced with an absolute dream of a right hand. Since then he's beaten the European champ in Rebrasse, who's a tough fighter that had never been stopped and in my opinion a tougher opponent than Alcoba, Barakat and Balmaceda were who were Groves previous 3 opponents prior to the 2 Froch fights. Douglin really was a ticking over fight last night and because of this - especially with a world title shot in the picture - I think he underestimated him hence the loading up. It took him a few rounds to get going, which happens, then once he did get going and found his range he took him out.
I do agree with Froch that he is fragile at world level and his stamina is a problem. I also think the Froch I fight went to his head. Froch can be outboxed but it is his other attributes that have kept him at the top of the game, in that respect he is the complete opposite of Groves. Its perception only but I get the impression that Groves is very head strong and he has picked a coach that will dance to his tune. He is not the finished product yet and his weaknesses are such that he needs proper schooling. I don't think he beats Degale in a rematch regardless of coaches but it certainly made a difference in the first fight. Look at the difference between that performance last night and the one v Noa Gonzalez 18 months ago. Similar opponents and Groves has gone backwards. He thinks he is good enough now to get in there and bang guys out, he isn't. I'm not a fan of Booth but read in Boxing Monthly that him and Groves were not getting on to the extent that he picked up the phone and told him to find a new coach.
even though I find groves very annoying he has great talent, I ersonally think he needs a break, he has lost a bit of confidence but he has lost twice this year and instead of boxing to his strengths he is trying to hard imo, go back to fighting the way he was before and during the froch fights and he gives anybody in division trouble, however if he thinks because he knocked froch down he can blast everyone out he will come up very short again versus dirrell, what worried me the most about last nights performance was he reception from the crowd through his own doing he has gone from hero to zero to the general fan
To be fair I think the crowd reception was mainly because it was in Liverpool, scousers just aren't fond of him... compare that to the noise/reception he got throughout the Rebrasse fight which was in London and it's night and day. I do agree with you on some points there, he needs to get back to being more fluid.. just because he put Froch on ***** street you can't go falling in love with your power because then you'll load up and won't find the right shots.
sorry but every man and his dog on here disagree going off the first froch fight i said back then after that first encounter froch took something from groves that night never mind the second fight , froch as shortend groves carrer he just does not look the same physically or mentally
I agree with you to a certain extent the first fight v Froch especially imo he performed to his optimum.Froch is one tough SOB whatever people think of him proven to turn adversity on its head in a fight mentally resilient.Groves has talent but to me is he being pushed enough and i mean from himself not PF?
