Agreed but how many boxers could you say that about?

    Tony Bellew
    Nathan Cleverly
    Arthur Abraham
    Chris Eubank Jr

They are just some fighters whose ideal weight is between two recognized weight classes.

fair point.. Imo he should stay 168 if he can make the weight... Gets the WBA belt and the unification is a big fight with Degale or anyone tbh.. he has a big fanbase and is now a big name after the Carl Froch fights

Even James, who does a TON of aerobic work, has to coast (possibly because he has a lazy style, too) because he feels it come the second half of the fight.

True, but he's probably made a few million from those fights and the fight afterwards and might just realise he's declining?

Retire??? is that serious? people suggesting he retires???

He's lost 3 fights - ALL 3 in world title fights!! twice against arguably the best British 168er of the last decade... and let's not forget - he gave Froch a good go for every second of every round, he didn't look out of place. At all!
And he lost to Jack, who IMO is one of the most under rated fighters around at the moment.

Groves beats both Smiths, Fielding tomorrow... He gives Degale the fight of his life if they meet.. He's a long time done!!!

Let's not forget Arthur Abraham is walking around with the WBO, looking older as the day goes on, Ward is moving up to LH.

Talk of retirement is shocking tbh!!

Can you hand on your heart say he doesn't look shot to bits now?

think him declining is a myth tbh.. fought a good fight Vs Jack (imo was over trained and his camp was far too long). His Fights with Froch (was winning first and 2nd close before he was stopped). Vs Rebrasse he looked better than smith (imo its hard to look good vs rebrasse) and Douglin was a poor performance tbh that was his only bad display in last 10 fights.. young enough to come back needs to have motivation and go through the process of having 3/4/5 fights to become mandatory. Needs to sort his defense out as i dont think hes chinny just gets caught with shots far too often.

If i was him i would target a fight with Buglioni (would sell fairly well in london) then Fielding/smith or sturm and that would put him bang in line for WBA but he wont get another chance at belt without sauerlands paying big money to Jack/Chud..

He's just overrated. He'd have had the exact same results against the fighters he's fought since froch even if he had never got in the ring with carl. People have these huge expectations of him now because they thought carl would wipe him out, he's just had too much expectation put on him because he almost took froch out. Had carl come prepared and knocked him out in the first fight like he did in the 2nd then people would be saying what a great performance george put in against badou jack.

The truth is that george is not shot, he's just not as good as everyone thinks he is.

You fellas really think he would have a live chance at 175lb,very suprised?

Not for me he needs to take a long rest and come back again at 168lb.

Kovalev and Stevenson are one thing. What about Artur Beterbiev he would really do a number on Groves.

maybe not but making 168 isnt healthy for him, he is getting hurt in every fight and his power is diminishing

The fighters that have to cut drastic weight constantly it really does catch up with them at some point.

If Groves is blowing up between fights to 14 st no wonder his tank looks empty condition wise. The older you get even mid- late 20's it catches up at some point.BJS had admitted being around 14st between fights and he is operating at 160lb.

175lb would be an absolute disaster for Groves it really would. Putting aside Stevenson or Kovalev who would wipe him out what about guys like Beterbiev...doesn't bare thinking about.

He has to stick it out at 168 at least for now and hope for a shot at Abraham after he gets a new coach.

Change of promoter or the trainer announcement. Groves needs a couple of wins before another tilt at someone like Chudinov.
