Georg Groves has appealed to the IBF to order a mandatory rematch with Carl Froch.

They faced each other last November when Groves was stopped controversially by Referee Howard Foster and there has been major backlash from boxing fans and media.

Groves said : "I was out in New Jersey last week making an appeal to the IBF and i will find the results this week".
"We presented a very good case: our ground was bias from the referee and that finish was unsatisfactory".
"The whole basis of the hearing is for them to force a rematch, giving Froch no option".
"If they instate me as mandatory, he'll have no option to fight me or vacate or be stripped".
"The IBF may go against me as Howard Foster is an IBF instated referee, but if it does go against me, i still feel i should get my rematch because the public demand it".
"There's no fight out there for Froch - Unless he wants to retire, it has to be a fight with me".

Promoter Eddie Hearn is pushing to stage the rematch and has even mentioned a date in May, but Froch in the other hand is not interested, feeling that he doesn't have anything to prove by facing Groves again.

Carl's bottle has gone, simple. There's no other reason.

Why turn down the biggest purse of your career AND silence the British public AND save face at the same time? No bottle, that's why.

I don't think you do get it!!

Groves is doing the right thing by going down this route because if the IBF accept his appeal then he will be instated as mandatory again and will be entitled to his 25% split of the purse.

Eddie Hearn is keen on the rematch, but i cant see him and Froch offering Groves a better deal than that.

Groves deserves a rematch, no doubt about it. I am surprised at Froch's cowardice................

Froch is going nowhere near a rematch i think he will vacate if they make groves mandatory and say he wants to fight in vegas as his last swansong then retire, froch has seriously aged over his last few fights he knows the rematch would be him struggling for the first half of the fight again and at his age i dont think he should put himself into a position where he could really get hurt again. Wouldn't be surprised if he retires once he knows the outcome of the appeal he will know being champion before anyone else and him and hearn will quickly put together a shite excuse

The appeal will fail, that was my initial though as soon as i saw Groves base for his argument was the ref showing bias, the IBF will never uphold and admit to this.

Groves needs to move on if the appeal fails, he could end up wasting a year chasing a rematch that wont happen.

Forgive me this may be a silly question!

But if Groves had got the rematch with Froch via Matchroom as a voluntary defence then surely he would have much more leverage as oppose to the standard 25% he would get as a mandatory challenger?

If this is true, then you really have to give props to Groves, he really wants this fight at any cost and will make Froch a even more richer man! - This does tend to make me think that the fight is unlikely to happen, because this kind of action - this far out of the fight almost seems like a last resort!

    Anybody else agree?
