I'm saying that a ****ing shitload of boxing enthusiasts use official results as a measure, as opposed to using performance as a measure. Look around you mate, it happens every hour on here . Of course official results are important, they're the first thing you seen when you examine a fighter. A lot of people don't go past the surface though, and that's why you get so many analysis's around here (a boxing website) based on results, and not performance.

Surely those actually discussing/debating the sport and making a concerted effort to immerse themselves in the history of the sport enough to support their own arguments, are the people that will be 'writing boxing history

The threads on here would be shocking if everyone went by the 'official' results. That's not analysing. That's not 'seeing the result'. That's lazy, ignorant and shows a lack of passion for the sport IMO.

Boxing is a sport where two men engage in pugilism. The best way to gauge it is to watch it. Not to read two names with the result etched beside it.

Chris Eubank was basically feather fisted. Look at his K.O %. These are the things that matter remember. As that's how future generations that have little more than a passing interest in the sport (if you're that ignorant then that's how I'd describe it) will perceive him, that's what matters and is the truth.

Just like the truth that Chavez earned a draw with Sweet Pea. That what it says, right?

Okay Captain Obvious. But unless 'historians' are any random ******* that clicks on boxrec you were mistaken to assume a historian would have nothing but a surface level knowledge. That is the point of being a historian, to be analytical and to learn. Not to be a boxing-match-result-memorizer. A parrot could memorize 300 results. Which is interesting because 90% of the idiots in the general have the IQ of a bird so in that respect you are probably right, but who actually cares what they think?

I know what you're saying, but a lot of fans on here do just make judgements based on results. Maybe I have been spending too much time in the general forum, because that is the case in every thread . I think that for the less hardcore fans, those trying to get into the sport, reading records is much easier than watching fights. When I was getting into the sport, that's what I did. It was a while until I started watching fights, and getting to know the fighters I was judging. Reading records is sort of like an easy way out, and that's why a lot of casual fans do it. I'm going on a bit, but I think it's harder to get what I'm saying from a hardcore fans perspective.

No worries. I insult people all the time. I'm probably a hypocrite for flagging it up :yep.

Anyway, I think I'll take a hiatus from the brit forum. I don't think this debate has created a good image of me. I've probably came across as a bit of a ****ish scouser with a Mayorga avatar, who doesn't watch fights, and thinks that everybody and their mother holds official results in the highest regard. I'm not like that, I swear . I hold my hands up, this hasn't been a great introduction to the brit forum masses for me. I'm going to **** off for now, but one of these days I'll be back, and I'll prove that I'm not just some pedantic, repetitive twat.

I'm just saying that most casual fans do this, and there are a LOT of casual fans, and boxing is a sport which struggles to appeal to the masses. Hence reading official results is practiced so much, and is therefore so prevelant in the boxing community. It's a shortcut, and a lot of people, from part time fans to amateur writers, take this shortcut.
