Groves calls out Smith... can he take what Smith can dish out???

Groves is getting better and better all the time whereas Smith has gone backwards. It has taken Smith ages to get British Title level and Groves is there already and in another year he would absolutely anihilate Smith. I am starting to get behind Groves because he is improving at a really fast pace.

 

Groves would embarrass Smith and KO him in 4 rounds.

Pretty much the way I'd see it going.

 

What exactly am I missing? I know exactly how he looks for the body. It's not educated. He doesn't jab to the chest to bring a guys arms in, he hardly jabs at all. He doesn't really move his head on the way in. He literally just forces his work, he runs in and wades away to the body.

I'd bet the house on George Groves if the odds were anything reasonable. That's no disrespect to Smith who is a solid fighter but it just ain't happening for him in this fight...I don't see how he wins except for landing a hail mary.

Groves would dominate the fight from range. Why? He has a long, quick jab. I actually think he underuses it, but Smith literally never uses a jab. He'd get the better of long range exhanges comfortably, the handspeed also comes into play in that.

What that means is that Paul Smith has to force the fight. He has to pressure George Groves. That suits Groves down to the ground, because Smith doesn't pressure in an educated fashion as I mentioned earlier. He mainly just loops punches in any fashion. He didn't neccessarily beat Dodson and Quigley with all out pressure, he walked them onto some of his best work, that was the most eye catching work he did for me rather than the crude pressure tactics which looked very ordinary.

There would be huge counterpunching opportunities for Groves, I could see Smith square on and put on his ass at some stage. Regardless he'd land crisp accurate counters all night.

It obviously wouldn't be that one-sided, in fact nowhere near.... but I do see Groves teeing off on him, probably forcing a corner stoppage late on.

That isn't a slight on Smith at all, he showed plenty of stones against Dodson to win through, but I just think Groves is the real deal.... I've been saying it for ages.

 

I think that if Wlad connects it will be interesting for sure...:yep Haye has yet to take a real dig on the whiskers off a fully fledged Heavyweight.

I think the way that Haye will beat him is to slip and counter, I see uppercuts playing a major part of his fight strategy v the Klits...with that big right hand over the top when the angles and timing is right...:yep

As I said it is about opinions, I don't disrespect yours and I am posting my own. It is quite clear that you are close to Smith and would appear in my opinion to be viewing him through "Smith Goggles"

I am sure that this is a fight that is out there to be made so no doubt if it is we will speak on here quite a bit then...:yep

It would be even better if it was at the Echo Arena, I went recently to the Smith v Dodson fight, it's a great venue, no doubt it will be banged out in the future for Tony Bellew's dominance at LHW...:deal

 

Smith is awful. Any decent fighter will embarrass him.

 

Smith looked **** in his last 2 fights and is not that good thats why i think Groves will just be too fast and sharp for him.

 

'Accurate'? You must've been watching a different Paul Smith to the one i've seen labour to victory in his last couple of bouts.

 

This fight for me now is a must , im not one bit interested in seeing Smith Magee after Groves has made it more than clear that a) he wants to fight Smith and b) he's confident of knocking him out .

What makes this fight interesting is that the majority of boxing fans dont really give Paul much of a chance and Groves is 9 & 0 , its a fantastic situation i think in that Smith has to step up and fight the lad now , he just has too , i know boxing politics and all that but if Smith was any sort of champion he'd fight Groves right now , i dont wanna be over critical of Smith as thats easy to do but he has to fight Groves now .

I wouldnt count on that happening though !!!!!!
