boxingforum24.com gets bloody boring when everyone has the same opinion. 1 year ago if this thread was made I would have probably been the only one backing Jr, heck 1 year ago people were saying he couldn't beat Kell Brook. Times are changing I am hoping Groves can beat Cox, but it isn't a certainty. Cox is rugged, dirty, has an engine which are traits that could help against Groves. I think he's lacking in the size and power department but if he proves to be exceptionally tough you never know. Obodai Sai made him look like he wanted to quit but he didn't. That was a long time ago though so counts for very little. If Cox wants it bad enough he might just do it. Jr would light Cox up and he would get zero credit beating him, that's why I want the big showdown so Jr gets a chance to really shine.
If Groves' Achilles' heel didn't match up so damn well with what Eubank does best, I'd favor him to win. He's got the skills, counterpunching, and movement to give CEJ fits, and he probably will...until he gasses or gets too lax with his defense, at which point he'll likely get knocked out. Chalk me up for Eubank TKO 9. I'm still not sold Groves has fixed his stamina. If he has, then it's not too tough for me to see him winning it instead.
I fancy Groves on points but for Eubank Jn to come on strong with his workrate and high punch volume. Groves is an excellent fighter, good movement and really heavy handed, that jab will get him the win but I expect it to be an epic fight. As for Cox causing Groves problems, I posted on the British forum that Groves will beat up Cox and I believe he will. It’s all about levels, and Groves is a few notches up on him and to top it off, Cox is a middleweight. Easy win for Groves.
Eubank Jr needs to fight Groves like Ricky Hatton fights and like he fought Billy Joe Sanders late in their fight coming forward with constant pressure, body work not overloading on upper-cuts but body shots up the middle stomach and liver jabbing to the head and body coming forward for at least 7 to 8 rounds. Taking Groves out of his element and clearly wining rounds staying busy and in control. But he needs to train his ass off and get with Ricky Hatton to help him with his style cause hes gonna have to fight just like Ricky to beat this guy. Then after 7 or 8 rounds box then to try to catch a worn-out Groves that at this point has no legs left. then in the 12 round pressure him against the ropes with body shots and Head shots to close the fight. But he wont fight like this till late in the fight just like he did with Billy Joe cause that is not his true style he is a boxer puncher when he should be fighting like Chavez Jr or Ricky Hatton. So he will come in trying to out box Groves for about 7 rounds. Then his dad will tell him hes losing the fight and he will come forward, like he did before and lose a close fight by 2 or 4 points again. All Eubank has to do from now on before this fight is become a constant pressure fighter. Like Ricky Hatton and Chavez Jr and train like this for the rest of his career and he would beat 99% of these guys cause this takes all of them out of their elements. Moving Boxers counter punchers hate Power punchers that use aggressive constant pressure and doesn't let them set reset and rest. Counter punchers needs to set their feet to punch and reset. Unless they train for pressure fighters and are special fighters. Like--Mayweather hes a different Animal in the gym and ring amd Groves wouldnt expect this type of pressure fight from Eubank Jr for a full 7 or 8 rounds. But Groves wins this by 1 or 2 points and 4 points on one of the other Judges Card. Groves by Decision 12 full rounds.
Or Eubank could try to out Box Groves for the first 2 min of every round keep it a close fight winning some of the first 2 min and then in the last min of every round pressure the hell out of Groves with body and Head shots to steal the rounds and win them by out working Groves who would want to rest, pounding his asss on the ropes . Eubank would win the fight if he did this and confuse the hell out of Groves cause Groves would be tired in the first min of every round trying to recover from the final min of the last round Or mix it up fight Groves first 2 min of the round with constant pressure power punches body shots on the ropes and then try to out box him in the last min and then mix all of it up the whole fight. Its all about taking fighters out of their comfort Zone .
Not al all sugar. I was right then and I'm right now. Consistency is my middle name. When I was saying cej was awfully limited...he was awful. But he has progressed ...and I'm simply giving him credit for that, that's all. Had he not progressed I would not be rating him. But he has. I see the same problem with Conor Benn. People getting stuck in "he's useless" mode and failing to see that he is improving too, although a long way behind cej still. We must move with the times sugar...
Eubanks improvement curve has been very steep . Every fight he has massively improved. He seems to have a very high ceiling that keeps expanding . However he has not mixed in the company Groves has. His closest is a faded AA. I don't think he's faster than groves. He has a fast inside game but med to long range Groves is very quick. If jnr can get inside and do his thing he could tire groves out . But can't see that happening . Agree with the poster that says groves will outbox him from the outside for 6/7 rds then jnr will throw the kitchen sink at him but it won't be enough to secure the win over 12. Exciting match up..
This is all well and good other than you not acknowledging that he was much better in the BJS fight than you thought he'd be - it ended up being pretty close - and he wiped out poor old Spike when you thought that might go the other way. What's funny is we've actually traded places and I think his ceiling is both fast approaching and about to be exposed by Groves should he actually take that fight.
Well well well ...if it ain't cst "the Eubank-denier"! Seems like it was just the other day (maybe cos it was only the other day) you were on here telling me how good Yildrim was and how well he would do etc etc... Surely now you of all people must now issue posts that admit you acknowledge the undeniable greatness of the great one ...Chris Eubank Jr! I'm mean ..he did beat (annihilate) a guy you rated very highly as having a good chance to beat him, the 'great' Yildrim, contrary to your bluntly stated exoectations, didn't he? Time to fess up CST.... set aside your evil ways and join us on the CEJ express...yeeee haaaaaaw!!!
Re Spike fight Sugar.... That's the thing with "punchers chance" fights sugar....if the puncher doesn't get the ko , they always ARE one sided beat downs...that why they're called "punchers chance" fights.....kinda like cos connecting with a one shot ko is his ONLY chance to win! As for the cej v bjs fight ...it was awful...a terrible scuffle....both were very poor. Pretty much as I expected.
POOR! You thought he looked "poor"... Where exactly was he poor, cst? Was it the trademark repeated spiteful right uppercuts, the clever clinching and use of his body weight and strength to control Yildrim. Perhaps the razor like jab that split yildrims shell guard, or the sugar Ray Leonard like blizzard of hooks that went around it? Maybe it was the away he ruthlessly dominated every aspect of the fight? The body shots? The knockdowns? the Ko ?
I fancy Groves. I think Groves jab will cut down Jnr's output as well as Groves having good power which should make Eubank think twice about leaving himself open. If Eubank can force Groves to fight at a pace and get past 6/7 rounds the fight would be very interesting as not sure Groves can fight a fast pace fight for the duration.
Jr has got better, but he's only displaying that against a certain type of fighter. I've always maintained a good boxer beats Eubank and it looks like we'll get the chance to see that if he fights Groves, which he should do as Cox isn't any good. Yildrim and Abraham aren't movers or particularly noted as pure boxers. The target doesn't move so Jr can let his fast hands on the inside go. Yildrim landed a few counters during some of those flurries which someone with Groves' power or accuracy might better exploit. If he beats Groves, full props from me. But I'm sticking with Groves on this one
