Groves get more stick then Gavin

Dunno could be a real tough one. You think Jack has bang to put out Groves?? I want Groves to win ... i dont mind him really he has done our sport well... lotta attention. To have Groves and Degale hold belts would be awesome for a next summer fight.

My worry is Jack is a strong boy with pretty good stamina and reasonable KO record think just over half of fights? not 100% on that tho. Jack will keep coming hopefully Groves has enough bang to keep him discouraged? Groves best hope is to try and do as little as possible to win the rounds letting the occasional bomb go to keep Jack in check. He has enough about him technically to get the job done. His stamina will have to be on point and he will need to be VERY disciplined against Jack to win it.

watch again, groves started by planting his feet looking to land with power, and wasn't given a chance.

by the 8th round he had to go for it as that was his only chance. he was expecting to have won or be well ahead on the cards by then, he was neither. they fought froch's fight from beginning to end.

i can't accept that surrendering what you perceive to be your advantages and playing to what are undeniably your opponent's constitutes a gameplan - it's just what happened.

and ward relied on his ability to stop froch's work, protecting his chin, and slowed noticeably towards the end. that was a dismal gameplan by froch's team, they really thought they were going to bully ward!

groves started with a wide stance and low hands, with froch looking the more orthodox boxer, unbelievably. he then tried to box and move to rack up rounds, which didn't work either. as a froch fan i'm happy to admit i was expecting him to concede the 1st few rounds and work his way back in, but was surprised at how easy the fight was for him. he imposed his will from the off.

if you tried to debate instead of just hurling abuse, i might be able to take you seriously. i can't.

 

i disagree it was "easy for him" it was an even fight up to the ko (i had froch 1 rnd up i think), think everyone thought it was so easy for forch cos lets be honest he got absolutely mullered in the first fight, the biggest clobbering iv ever seen him take (you wont find many fights were someone has taken so many big shots and survived let alone won !!)

i'm not so convinced by ward's stamina and chin, but agree he used his skill to get off on froch before tying him up, froch played straight into his hands. i favour ward however they fight, but that was a poor option by froch's team.

people overstate the 1st fight, the kd was as much down to froch being sloppy as groves taking it to him. after that you adjust accordingly, you go after your man. difficult to call the gameplan from that, the opener had been quite cagey prior to the kd.

in the rematch, he initially tried the same but it didn't work. they instigated plan b, but that didn't work either. by round 8, when he wasn't victorious or clearly ahead, he had to go for it because he ain't ever gonna win down the stretch where groves is shaky and froch 1 of the best.

how that equates to saying he had no gameplan i honestly don't know. i just don't buy that they thought their best option was to drag froch the later rounds and step it up from there. knowing what we do about both fighters, it defies logic.
