I always interpreted it like this........De Gale was seemingly so disgruntled that he lost to Groves in the amateurs that he didn't accept the defeat, thus not contemplating WHY Groves was able to give him problems, meaning when they met as pro's he wasn't fully equipped to deal with what Groves does well, what makes him so effective against De Gale, which I put down to the fact he's mentally weak. I mean you can say what you like about David Haye, but part of the reason Haye was as good as he was, is because he acknowledged his flaws and so negated them by fighting to his strengths. De Gale has his head so far up his own arse that he cant take a step back and say to himself, hmm, you know what, I aint so good at this and that, maybe that is an area I can improve upon, or Groves is good at this and that, so I will do this and that to negate it. Jimmy Mac deserves a lot of criticisms for not pointing these short comings out to. Shows how much of kean eye he has for detail. Ironic that he had the audacity to call Booth a glorified fitness instructor yet he got tactically outmaneuvered by him. I think De Gale only kept Jimmy Mac on because he makes him feel good because he's always massaging his ego. De Gale dont wanna a coach that's gonna tell him he's inadequate in certain areas cause he cant handle that. Groves had it right when he said he's like a an onion with layers. You take away that confidence and he aint the same fighter though. I think that's why he needs pumping up all the time, and why he cant face the truth,
I really do think it bothers DeGale that he is not very well liked, I think he wants to be seen as this cocky, young brash superstar that has an arrogant charm about him instead he's just seen as a twat.
Degales fiance twitter.com/franallured said this: Jim's a brilliant trainer & was a brilliant boxer himself. He knows the trade & what it takes to achieve in it, he's been in the ring he knows what he's doing . Plus he's more than a trainer, he part of the fam. Aint goin nowher
Jim and James are to close, James needs guidance and a calm head. He needs a old head to guide him IMO.
Anybody who seriosly says there the man in boxing plays the cocky villain, the quiete do the best i can is a uk and most other peoples favourite, but one needs the other, we watch one hoping he wins the other lose, but if were watching, there doing nothing but good.
I dont mind Degale, watch his interviews with big Koogy baby & he comes accross fine, just seems he had a personality clash with Groves. It happens, take thiis place for instance. Some posters just make your blood boil! & no way did Groves ever own Degale, in my unbiased eyes Degale won that fight, but Groves got the decision purely based on being the 'good guy' cos Degale ran his mouth a bit too much beforehand. Groves won by a sympathy vote IMO. as for McDonell, he should have been old enough & wise enough not to join in with young mens bravado antics beforehand, insulting Groves the way he did was always going to come back & haunt his fighter if things went wrong. I mean this guy was around commentating on Benn-Eubank 1, after watching the build up to that he should have known about mind games by the 21st century:-(
I've scored that fight a few times now and always get Groves by 1 point if I give him a very close round (I forget which) or get a draw if I score the close round a draw. Very close fight. For what thats worth!
