Groves, Price or Cleverly?

Was really big on him at one point, seems to have stalled a little. Still think he'll fight at world level though, a better prospect than Cleverly.

Billy Joe Saunders has really impressed me and the top amateurs coming through are looking good too. They're too early in their progression to compare to the likes of Groves/Price/Cleverly, but they'll come good.

Groves is definitely one of our better ones, Cleverly... one of our more embarrassing ones.

 

one thing im not looking forward to is how grooves is going to be matched up..

Out of all the British prospects, none have fought better opposition than Groves. I'd be much more concerned about Cleverly's next 20 fights about the Krasniqi's of this world.

 

Give him a chance before you slate the guy, his record is alright for 16 fights in with Degale and Johnson there you have an Olympic gold medallist and a former world champion on your record. If in a year or two he's fought nobody of any note then you can start to hate on him. Since you're a big Klitschko fan, what had Wlad done by fight 16? or Vitali?

Well Cleverly has landed in the states so hopefully we can see him making some bigger fights in the next couple of years. Also agree about Groves for a 16 fight record it could look a lot worse

 

Price in the post-klitschko era.

 

Groves is very good i agree.

 

I still think potentially Cleverly out of this lot, despite how embarrassing his opposition has been since grabbing his alphabet strap.

I was very big on Price at one point, but against Skelton, I was disappointed with the lack of authority on his jab and range control. Skelton got inside way too easily and whenever he was within range, Price doesn't have much of a guard to not take shots. His saving grace is that he's so big it's hard to land clean on him, but if anybody does, his whiskers are shaky and he could be a knockout waiting to happen.

He's got great power though and some good fundamentals in there. Just needs to not fall in love with his power and box a bit more. It's all well and good cherry-picking guys he can take out in a round or two, but they'll be a time when he won't be able to blast everyone out and he'll need to rely on his boxing skills, so he just needs to polish himself a bit.

Groves I think is probably the most polished of the three in terms of his skills, but he's injury prone and his career has stalled a bit. Glen Johnson was a step in the right direction though he's but a name now. The fact it looks like he might now fight for the European strap that DeGale's vacated to move on to world level having BEATEN DeGale says it all about how he's not capitalized on that victory. I do think he could potentially be the best of the three here, the question is whether he can keep fit enough and his career management.

As for Cleverly, he's got a lot of physical attributes going for him. He needs more polish technically but athletically, he's quick, great engine, decent strength, can take a good shot and his punches look like they have snap though he needs more natural power. It also looks like he might be getting the most help of the three which is why I'm leaning towards him. Potentially working with Roach and Golden Boy can lead him to bigger things more immediately. He just needs to iron out a few flaws.

I think Bellew more than has the potential to beat him in a rematch however. DeGale has the talent to be able to top Groves if he carries on progressing at a faster rate than his rival and irons out a lot of his flaws (I think he's gone backwards since the Smith fight though). And I wouldn't totally rule out Fury against Price because of his improved boxing skills and Price's chin, and the fact he's advanced to a bit higher a level with the Kevin Johnson win. It's good that these 3 prospects each have their own similarly highly-rated domestic rivals pushing them, it can only improve them all as fighters.

Price should do well because the heavyweight division is terrible. But he is already 30 and needs to step it up.

Groves can pick up a strap, but will never beat somone on the level of Ward.

Claverly on the other hand is just another one of W*rrens manufactured alphabet frauds. He can build up a fan base from the ignorant Sun reading, lager lout football fan types that W*rren relies on to sell tickets, who will turn up thinking they are watching "the champion" while he beats up some Easten European toilet attendant, but that is about it. All the while W*rren will blather on about how Cleverly is the number 1 in the division and that everyone is ducking him - and Cleverly's idiot fan base will lap it up.

 

A terrible division would imply no order to it nor anyone decent to beat!

Price would be the underdog against his fellow countryman let alone the top dog's of the division! That is not a poor division. Take Ward, Froch and Kessler outta the SMW division and who u got?

K2, Haye and Price alone are four very talented HW'S, the division is thriving!

 

Wlad is the only legit fighter out of those three. Vitali is done and will retire whilst Haye may as well be retired (does anyone even care?). Wlad would obviously beat Price, but once Wlad retires then Price has as much chance as anyone to become number 1 in the division.

I think Cleverly. I don't expect Ward to move up any time soon and as such don't see Groves becoming the number 1 super middleweight. Not massively sure on Price just yet, next year could change my opinion though.
