Ronaldo would have won the last 3 Ballon 'd Or's .......... IF ..... Messi wasn't here. Bit of a ridiculous statement. Just the same as saying Froch WOULD have KO'd GG anyway. The reality is no one knows so any guesswork is purely that.
IMO the two judges scorecards are miles worse than the awful stoppage. So even if it wasn't stopped we pretty much know GG had a mountain to climb in order to take a points victory. It seems to me everything was put in place for a Froch win before a jab was thrown.
Really? http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x17m4w9_froch-vs-groves-the-stoppage_sport Definitely not coming forward. There's one left hook he throws that Froch's penultimate punch stops. If that landed it might have been different but the last left right combo is pretty devastating. After that he tries to cover up, falls a bit towards Froch, bounces off and falls towards the ref turning his back to Froch.
He doesn't bounce off at all, if you actually have eyes you'll see he gets pushed off by Carl on his arm.
Not coming forward? How did he get from having his back on the ropes to being about 3 steps inside the ropes? He was coming forward ffs!
Groves throws 3 shots and before he's finished the last you can see Foster is wanting to stop it..whilst hes still throwing which is ridiculous.
Froch is throwing his right hand and Groves is moving away from it (hence "not coming forward" as you and others put it), it misses and when Froch realises he's missed he pushes Groves in the back of the head, meaning Groves momentum turns him round slightly and bumps him into the ref. Groves did not turn his back and fall into the ref, he turned slightly and bumped into the ref ( who was standing too close and behind Groves anyway, which he shouldn't do) due to an illegal move by Froch. Yes, Groves was hurt, but not that badly hurt, the fact he was moving away from and slipping punches, as well as throwing punches of his own, shows this, this is hardly the actions of a man "out on his feet". Froch had been hurt far worse several times throughout the fight and there was no justification for the stoppage, none.
He throws two punches from the ropes and eats a right from Froch that pushes him back onto the ropes. He then stands up right into another Froch right, throws another couple of wild swings and eats a Froch left right combo (there's a final left cross that Groves flicks out missing Froch completely as he staggers to his left). Groves weaves unsteadily to his left from the penultimate Froch punch then drags himself back right where Froch catches him on his left arm getting ready for another right that for whatever reason Froch doesn't really throw. Awkward positioning perhaps or, as Froch said in afterwards, he pulls the punch. Anyway, Groves kind of stumbles into Froch still covered up, still eyes on the ground and doesn't try to grab. There's a bit of contact and he stumbles off to his right towards the ref. Look at the clip I posted again. From the second angle, the one from the main fight coverage it looks as if there's a bit of a push from Froch. The first angle in the clip shows that isn't case. Either way Groves is pretty unsteady on his feet. The last three shots vindicate the ref a tiny bit for me. He's got a great view of the fist, the straight right that goes through the gloves. After that Groves still has eyes on Froch and punches back, admittedly wildly. The ref has eyes on and lets it continue. Then Groves swings in a left hook and is beaten to the punch by Froch's right so he's twisting into the contact. Then as he's falling Groves throws a right cross (well right something, all the punches from both fighters are pretty ragged at this stage!) that takes him into Froch's right cross. It's at this point that Groves stops looking at Froch and looks a bit out of it. There's a half step in where as the ref is clearly thinking of stopping it then he makes up his mind. Now was it early? I'd say so. I was shocked when it happened live and having watched the replays countless times I'd still say so. Groves was still covering up so it's hard to say he wasn't protecting himself but then again he did turn his back a bit. Plus the ref has seen him ship ten big punches from 2:00 to 1:30. You can't say that Foster stopped it whilst Groves was still throwing though. It's only after Froch's last punch (I'm not counting that bit of a punch on Groves back right at the end) that Foster half steps in, then seems to hesitate before making his mind up. Foster doesn't look to stop until Froch's last punch and Groves doesn't throw another after that. Now as I said I think it was a premature stoppage but really what does anyone thing was going to happen for the rest of that round with 90 seconds left? I've read a few people seemingly suggest that Groves could come back and I just can't see that at all.
This is how the ridiculously ( Groves) biased commentary described the last 20 seconds of the fight, and i quote..............
1: 10-8 G 2: 10-9 G 3: 10-9 G 4: 10-9 G 5: 10-9 F 6:10-9 G 7:10-9 G 8: 10-9 F (F shuv had point deduced) 78-73 G
Froch is landing, but not way is Groves in that much trouble - the slo mo is misleading. Hes covering his face and is possibly blinded by his gloves. Froch is rushing his shots and pushes groves's head into the ref who in turn gets him in a headlock and calls it off. Groves IMMEDIATELY protests. No way am I accepting thats a justified stoppage
You've cut off the bit immediately after when the commentator says how controversial that stoppage is going to be. Nobody is saying that Groves didn't take any shots, but if that was the standard for stopping a fight the ref would've stopped the fight in favour of Groves much, much earlier, and no fight would ever get to 12 rounds.
Unfortunately it all boils down to the ref on the night, if you take the bute fight for instance, the ref let bute take a serious hiding in the round before it was stopped and even when the fight was stopped it was by bute's corner and not the ref. So if this ref took charge the other night the fight would of gone on. Now I was willing for groves to win and I was amazed the fight finished when it did, would he of got through the rest of the round probably not, was the ref favouring froch all night? definitely so. If this fight would of taken place in America there is a good case that froch would of been disqualified but punching after the hold , elbows in the face . Had groves of been knocked out like that first round ref would of stopped it. I don't think groves needs to fight froch again and I don't think froch thinks he needs to give him a rematch. Heard froch on sky saying that groves had his chance and couldn't mix it at world level, blah blah blah froch is a fraud , rubbish boxer but unfortunately he has the greatest chin I have ever seen.
