I don't think so to be honest - when anyone sweats water out it tends to come out of the face first, so you look a bit skull like - mainly as most boxers are already fairly lean. - Liverpool journalist interviewed Callum last week and apparently he was 5lbs over the weight then? so I don't think he takes 20lbs off like canelo or anything. I think it's just his body type. Still no idea how he makes SMW - he's a Unit - after he rehydrates and carbs up I'd imagine he's 10lbs up.
Smith looked in absolutely tremendous shape. How anyone can say otherwise is beyond me. There’s a video on swiftys Facebook if anyone wants to see it.
Groves looked awful before the Eubank fight too. With that and his naturally pale complexion he looks like he'd be more scared of garlic and crucifixes than his opponent.
I know looks in great shape. George looks in decent shape though bit fleshy around midriff, compared to normally. Not only is Callum much taller he is wider at the shoulders. I think Callum could be a CW later in his Career let alone a LHW.
With his hands and Georges shoulder they may be able to build one decent boxer from the pair of them. Liam Groves to unify the division in 2019
If it’s true Smith broke both his hands against that kick boxer then I’d assume he’ll target GEORGE’S shoulder immediately, see which goes first. My considered HUNCH is that smith will lose the use of one hand before he pops GEORGE’S shoulder with his remaining good hand. Then what?
It did and he is. However 72” Groves reach compared to a 77 Skoglund and 78 Smith. Can Groves utilise his jab like he didn’t against Eubank due to the physical disadvantages?
Yes it did but Smiths jab gave him bigger trouble. Georges jab will give Smith trouble early on but the shoulder he uses to jab with wont be 100% and it will show.
Regarding the Liverpool journalist, I heard that as well on the Fight Diciples pod (I recommend that to anyone who hasn’t listened to it). He was only a few pounds over the limit 2 weeks out from fight. I can’t see him banging on much weight over night. We know Groves will be putting a stone on. Callum looked absolutely huge today, though. The top of Groves head is just under Callum’s nose. He looks about 4 inches taller. I agree with you @moog the lad will end up at cruiserweight when he fills out. It’s so weird seeing Groves so much shorter than his opponent when he’s used to having a size advantage. He will test Smith’s chin, i’m looking forward to seeing if Callum can fulfil the potential I believe he has.
I re-watched the Smith-Skoglund fight, and I'd say that the commentator, the freak Ronald McIntosh, got a little bit too excited over the success of Skoglund's jab, which was successful (and not very powerful) but not as much as McIntosh thought. Skoglund is tall, stands tall, rangy, with fast hands and feet. Groves is shorter, with a lower stance, much less range, and coming off a shoulder injury. It's not necessarily the case that the following logical chain is correct: (1) Skoglund landed the jab against Smith, and (2) Groves is a better fighter and has a good jab. Therefore, (3) Groves lands the jab against Smith.
