It's been called into question a lot recently due to the fact he had started to look tired against froch. Can anyone remember whether there were doubts before that? I remember thinking he was going to gas against Johnson with the amount of shots he was throwing but he never did (I know Johnson wasn't throwing much back) so I'm just wondering if this has been a concern for a while?

I personally don't think he has any stamina issues. the froch fight was a very tough one and he was putting everything into all of his shots so of course he was going to start to fade a little, I don't think that he was anywhere near close to being gassed as some have claimed. Also let's not forget that froch looked tired aswell and we know how good his stamina is. Just overall I think it had more to do with the nature of the fight than any stamina problems groves might have.

    Thoughts?

His Stamina is still in question, my main worry for Groves is that his chin isn't the best, there were also times in the first Froch fight when he was turning his back which isn't great imo.

Won both 12 round fights he's had that have gone the full distance.

A boring myth because he was a stablemate of Haye.

I agree. I haven't seen the Johnson fight in a while but I remember being surprised at how many punches groves was throwing. I've tried to look for the punch stats but can't find them anywhere.

    But if you factor in:

    - Froch's workrate throughout the fight
    - Groves getting tagged
    - Groves's own workrate
    - Froch's rough house tactics
    - Froch's continuous bludgeoning style
    - Groves being dragged into a brawl at the end of the fight
    - little or no respite throughout the entire fight

This was probably the highest intensity fight that Groves was involved in. Of course he was feeling it coming to the end. But he wasn't totally gassed at the end, just feeling some significant fatigue that a high level, hard fought fight would cause. We will see in the next fight if Groves has proper stamina issue.

I'd say his chin is more in question....didn't really get hit with anything flush in round 9 yet wobblijng all over the place.

He got hit with 3 or 4 shots when he was on the ropes that did move his head but nothing significant to stop the fight IMO.

Yeah laz if you read my original post I said I thought it was the style of fight that made groves tired, not a stamina issue. Froch was also very tired in my opinion and we know he has incredible stamina, just a very tough fight for both men.

No your right Mr Foster screwed that up, another 30 secs of beating would have sorted that out

Maybe so but we'll never know. I thought groves showed a decent chin, any wobbling from groves was where froch was going in like a steam train and knocking groves off balance, at no point did groves legs look gone from a punch, just looked tired to me.

Froch put everything into that and had nothing left imo.

His stamina might be poor but I haven't seen enough evidence for me to come to the conclusion that his stamina is below average. Yes he looked tired against Froch but I think Groves was about as tired as he should have been for that stage of that fight, Froch also looked tired imo.
I don't think it was all tiredness due to poor stamina, I think Groves was also groggy and dazed from getting hit and lowering his work rate because he thought he had a healthy lead on the scorecards. This was made to look worse by the fact that Froch was more active than him at that stage because he knew he was behind and needed KD's or a KO. The ref stopped the fight before we had a chance to see how tired Groves really was. GG is or was 25 years old, guys that age can sometimes get a second wind.
Another possibility is that Groves is/was just bad at pacing himself and doesn't necessarily have poor stamina. Marathon runners have good stamina but if they come out sprinting at the start....
