Regardless of the Anderson situation, Groves remains the legitimate holder of the Lonsdale belt and stripping him will only turn the next belt holder into a paper champion.
Yes if a mandatory is lined up (not sure if Anderson is a mando). He would be moving to the next level. Should he lose then he can come back to fight the winner of his vacant title OR fight for the vacant title against his mandatory. If he doesn't have a mando lined up then he should be able to make the fight, if he wins then he vacates automatically.
I think he should be, signed to fight Anderson he's mando. Week of fight purse bids come for a world title fight and he pulls out with a injury. I feel a common sense decision should be made knowing Groves has used a 'injury' to get out of fight then he should give title up and go for his world title shot and leave Anderson to contest title against someone else. He loses title fight then he can always come back to fight Anderson has mando.
I tend to agree with this, Why should he keep the title? He pulled out of the fight, sighting injury and then announces his next fight against a different opponent a couple of hours later? that's just wrong imo.
That's the way i see it as well, the title is on hold while he goes off to fight for world honors. He can always come back and contest it if he loses and if he wins world title then he's only gonna drop it anyways. He knows Anderson is a massive fight, to big a risk when a world title fight is on horizon.
Boxing isn't about right and wrong though. If Anderson had been offered a WBO shot he'd have been after it like a shot, and rightly so. Yeah, it sucks, but plenty of fighters do it.
Didn't it used to be the case that the British or Euro champ had to vacate when they boxed for a world title??
I thought so too - surely if they lose they get stripped and if they win they vacate, so it makes sense to just vacate early.
Oh I know that df, its still a bit raw that the fights not happening I think, I was really looking forward to it, ****ing boxing politics again, drives me up the wall.
Way i look at it, If Anderson did this in his Mando position he'd have it taken off him and given to someone else or Groves could play up. Although i agree boxing's not a fair sport it doesn't stop you thinking what's right and what's wrong and for him to keep title i think isn't right at this time.
Well, it's not like Anderson beat anyone special to get the shot. And he has lost clearly to Groves already.
But then we could say same for Groves getting a world title shot. I just think Groves should go fight for world title and leave the British title for now. Say a injury postpones the WBO title fight then the British title gets held up some more.
