groves v degale.....has it come too soon?

nice post, and i agree with most of it. i think groves should work more with dave coldwell, but as david haye wont be fighting til 2 months after this fight gentleman george will get adams full attention

 

100% yes its to soon. there may be demand from the hardcore fans who post on here and subscribe to boxing news but there was no clamour for it from the British public which Benn & Eubank had.

Have DeGale fighting on tv people actually watch that means at least Sky Sports 1. Groves doing some of his own Sky shows also on the Haye undercards.

This fight could be a should be 1000 times bigger than it is right now and its not because James DeGale is not a break out star like Khan & Harrison were at the same stage of there careers.

If either of those man had a rival like Groves it would have been a major major fight.

 

I consider this on a par with the Eubank Benn rivalry but we have to understand that the days of these boxing rivalries being built up by mass media are gone. If they had both been fighting on ITV this would be massive.

Nowadays for it to get to that level they will both need to win world titles and be hyped to **** by Sky and even then it depends if it catches the casual fans imagination. I think it would but people just done invest in personalities or rivalries in boxing like they used to.

 

I did Sports Psychology at University, but left on my second year along time ago. Not because the work was hard, simply because i was more occupied with other things in life, and i didn't want to dedicated to my studies.

**** what they teach in University, i learn my psychology from the streets and everyday people. I know people that have been in jail, people who are playing professional sports basketball, boxing, football. Most of them are my friends, i will have lengthy chats with them about life and their motivations, fears and how they go about their goals/training.

Just today i was walking the streets with one of my good friends, who has a damaged hand at the moment. But he plays professional basketball in Europe, so he is back home........

We just walked the streets talking about life, and his goals, training, how he handles competition.

All the while, i was asking him carefully thought out questions. To understand how he works mentally, to dig deep inside of his mind.

Once you understand somebody, you can defeat them. You can do anything you want with them, become one of there best friends, upset them, make them laugh or cry.

Like Batman i know how to defeat most people, Batman is the only superhero without any super powers. But he knows how to defeat Superman.......

I trained my mind, in the years when i couldn't train my body to maximum affected, because i was under the hospital.

Its all about the mind, all about the mind.

And no sport, more so that boxing. Showcases the war and battled of minds, that is why i enjoy the build up more than the fights these days. I watch interviews of fighters, more than when i watch them fight.

When Bernard Hopkins fought Joe Calzaghe, i turned and said to my brother that. Bernard Hopkins afew days out from the fight, was uncomfortable and did'nt really know what he was facing.....and it bothered him that he could'nt intimidate Calzaghe.

I think this makes a lot of sense Kool I like your thinking and i beleive you can learn just as much from people as you can from a book.

 

No,look at Watson and Benn.They fought each other before going onto bigger things.I say full credit to both for getting this on now.I think both will do well out of the fight cos its going to be a hard one,and maybe in a few years they will meet again.

 

If either fighter gets completely blown away then for them this fight came too soon. Its obvious.

I don't think it's too soon. Whoever loses is young enough to come back and still have a good career. It all points to being a competitive fight.

 

This fight could have happened later & been higher profile but its a big fight here & now.

The main question this fight raises for me is in the future how both guys would be affected by a loss because the result isnt a certainty & barring a draw, someone has to lose.

Groves & Degale are both still very young & a loss will act as a catalyst for change, bad or good. Recently both Khan & Haye lost early in their careers but their losses were perhaps a good thing. They both learnt from it, changed & improved as a result.

If the fight was left until later, when they were both more established then a loss might prove more devastating. Though a loss will be a big setback DeGale & Groves are both young, talented & have plently of potential to improve.

 

Boxing isn't in the 80's anymore when there were numerous stars in pretty much every weight class.

We complain (rightly so) about lots of mismatches in domestic fights and world title fights..... yet when we get a fight like this there's people saying it's too soon.

This is comical! As if Groves could actually move on to bigger fish in America and expect to do anything other than get brutally stopped?
