How well can it do numbers wise? It's the best all british fight for me, after Fury AJ. Hearn could turn Groves Eubank into one of the biggest UK PPV's of all time. But what about ITV?
Eubank seems phony when he tries to talk cocky like his dad, it feels forced and second hand, he needs an enemy like Nigel Benn to spark a fuse like what happened in 1990 between SR and Benn that`s how Eubank sr became box office, Ali had Frazier etc. Groves seems shy and nervous when the trash talking starts that won`t sell, you need a super-middle version of T.Fury to get things juicy vs jr I feel.
I agree Hearn could make this absolutely huge. I don't pay much attention to specific numbers on PPVs but I can see this doing decent ones if the advertisement is there. It will never get anywhere near what Sky could do with it though because of the lack of a 24 hour news channel and glitzy expensive previews getting the general public's attention. It's a shame really because as you say it is a great fight and one of the best British match ups you could ask for.
No I`m sure he`s one of the boys in the pub, he just doesn`t look comfortable with a camera on him, when Eubank and Degale started trash talking with him it looked like he didn`t know what to do or say, he seemed tense and unsure of himself.
Have you seen the build up to Froch Groves 1 mate? Basically bullied a veteran world champion in front of the cameras for weeks on end and nearly had him in tears. He knows what he's doing when he wants to.
Would be huge on sky. I don't see how ITV can build it. Sky have a run of boxing events before a big ppv to keep hype train running. ITV do not.
With Hearn and the build-up from Sky this could probably do very big numbers 500k+ With ITV I can't see the numbers being anywhere near. Agreed though this is one of the most exciting potential fights to be made.
Not the same audience though. Sky have SSN and sports programming 24/7 which they can push there PPV's too. That's an audience of sports fans not someone watching coronation street. I have no doubt the week of a PPV on sky they pick up many floating customers who watch football, rugby, etc simply due to PPV's always being pushed to that consumer.
For me that's one of the most iconic British boxing press conferences ever. Groves, recently split from his trainer, camp in disarray, calmly told Carl exactly what he was going to do in the first hand - "two right hands" etc. The media laughed, the fans laughed. And it was just prophetic. I never tire of watching that press conference and then the first round. Would have been magical if he just pulled off the win.
This is why ITV got the tournament. I think it does very good numbers but they will need to invest in pre fight shows to build hype
Same. I get tingles thinking about the build up and first 6 rounds. I'd been given loads from everyone for continuously backing Groves to beat him. Had money on him as well. The joy I was feeling when it seemed like it was all coming together was amazing. Only matched with the devastation in the 9th. It's why we love sport.
