Can't shake the image out of my head of Eubank Jr. stopping a fading Groves late while behind on the cards...
Keyword: "was." As in, the consensus was that Jr. was quite poor... YEARS AGO. That has changed dramatically, is the point I have made. Eubank gets talked up much, much more than Groves from most of the vocal posters on the subject of the fighters or SMW as a whole... Groves to "close but comfortably decision" Eubank is not me ranking Eubank highly. That means he wins 4 rounds? Maybe it is just that I don't rate Groves as highly and I know how boxing tends to go. I'm not a guy that picks KO's in 75% of matches.
I hadn't even looked. Hoping the compete fools push him to being the fav around fight time. It's truly an impossibility for groves to s round 10. About on par as fmj v mcquitter on guarantee payout
Is this really the Official Poll? Hmmm... I have my doubts. Oh well, it'll have to do. Here's my official prediction... Groves TKO9
I can't tell if you're serious. But I can see where you're coming from. A scenario where Eubank is simply too much for Groves is possible. BUT!!: Eubank has been operating at a far lower level, and at a lower weight, than he will be attempting to operate at against Groves. As Mike Tyson once said: "everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face". And Groves hits hard - at SMW.
Things change quickly in boxing like how Canelo was a massive underdog to GGG a few years ago but then almost even when they stepped in the ring. The revised odds ended up being more accurate. Some fighters improve, others get worse, while sometimes it's only perceptions that change. I haven't seen many Eubank or Groves fights but I see this as almost even. Both showed things in their fights that I was not very impressed with. Eubank basically had an easy flaw to exploit with those uppercuts and really that was all he did that was really impressive. When he actually went for the knockout they were just trading hooks with the Turk being already a bit desperate and weakened by the uppercuts. But I wasn't too impressed by the lack of creative offense from Eubank. Groves was a bit more banged up than he should've been from those few rounds with Cox and it made it look like he gets damaged quickly. That could work against him in a hard fought battle. He seems the smarter fighter but still gets tagged a lot. Right now I favor Eubank over Groves due to physical attributes like speed, explosiveness, and sturdiness but will have to watch 1-2 more fights to really make a final pick. Could be a good fight to bet the draw.
I honestly feel those two Froch fights took groves soul. If he hadn’t lost both I think he would have recovered well but I truly believe Froch took a lot of of him. I got Eubank who I don’t rank particularly high but he’ll get the job done.
I wouldn't compare Spence to Eubank Jr. Spence had a decent amateur career made it to the Olympics and worlds. As a pro I agree I don't know why he was a favourite against Brook but he definitely has a better pedigree than Jr imo. Jr had a limited ams career and in the pros hasn't really beaten anybody of any real class. I'm not hating on Jr. I like watching him box. Just dont see why he would be favourite against Groves, based on his weight and previous fights. Just my opinion.
Like Groves and let's not forget he dropped the up droppable Froch and clearly has some power but I just question his stamina. Eubank I'm starting to really like and if he goes on a run of top opponents his rebuilding since his loss to Saunders will seem ok,looks so confident and I'm not sure if I've ever seen hurt save a brief moment against that Irish bloke(was Mulligan or OHare)?lol
