BJS 2.0 gave GG Groves ''nightmares'' when they sparred each other. 'Question: Is George Groves a tougher opponent for Chris Eubank Jr than Billy Joe Saunders was in 2014? Adam Booth: “Groves is more dangerous but less tricky. Billy Joe is not as easy to get to as George. Once George stops punching, he’s not difficult to get to, whereas Billy Joe is difficult to get to whether he’s punching or not punching. “For Eubank Jr, the Billy Joe Saunders loss doesn’t look so bad now because of what Billy Joe has gone on to do. Also, I’ve been around Billy Joe. I’ve seen him spar Groves and he gave Groves nightmares. I know what Billy Joe is about. Given Eubank’s lack of experience in the amateurs, he did well to make the Saunders fight as close as it was.”
Not an Ingke jab though, Tibbs did more for Saunders' technically. All Ingle has done is improve his fitness.
Lemieux chased BJS down, Eubank stayed at range, hard to compare the two, different fights really. You'd expect Eubank to do the same as Lemieux but he didn't. Groves threw the jab to reset Eubank's thinking so that he continued to think and stayed still at range. Most of those jabs missed, but their intention wasn't really to land. They were just to reset Eubank's thinking every few seconds.
Great jab but Groves has the advantage with distance and BJS will be jabbing upwards. Also the Groves jab has a lot more authority over it. I think BJS probably edges it on skill but I still like Groves in this matchup. BJS should stay at 160 and try and clean up there, he has a good shot.
BJS 2.0 knocked out DeGale in sparring and he schooled Groves in sparring too. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
I'd pick groves just because of the size difference but it would probably be a stinker to watch, both men like to wait for a mistake from their opponent before throwing. It's not a fight I would pay for.
