he didn't though did he, he's won 5 more world titles than Chisora and had a much better career, why should he take any nonsense from him, the bloke couldn't defend his British title against that chubster Fury and came in looking like Vanessa Feltz himself, why should Haye show him any respect. Plus he fought the harder brother and gave him a similar fight, people are proper hyping how well Chisora did, he was average lets be honest.

But he has moved up and made two difficult defences. and his next fight will be agiasnt Mitchell. Thats 3 guys in the top 15 within a space of a year. I think thats impressive.

Perhaps he decided not to fight Broner on a Goldenboy card in his hometown...but does that really matter when your fighting quality opposition like Ricky is? Ok he faced 3 duds, who cares now hes fighting quality.

  3. The avoidance (let's be honest, that's what it was) of Broner wouldn't have looked so bad if Billy Nelson hadn't shot down my comment that Burns looked tight at 130 for Cook and should consider moving up.

I don't think for one minute though that he didn't fancy the fight, Allegedly didn't clearly.

Katsidis had the higher name value at the time, having twice fought here and raped Frank's star man at the time. Many of us, including me, expected a repeat against Burns, who instead handled him with relative ease.

Burns vs Mitchell doesn't interest me all that much, but it's a good domestic fight in the absence of a fight with a Rios or a Marquez. Rather that than a lightweight Karpency, surely.

Rob I see your point and it makes sense, but no matter what is said he ducked Broner. You cannot make 3 defences (with the last one being the most comical and one-sided out the lot) and then jump up when a difficult propostion comes a you.

Fighting Kats when the time is right and then fighting Moses when the likes of Rios are considering fighting featherweights for a fight makes you laugh. If Burns wants to make a big name and silence critics of his duck then he must go all out and chase the big fights like Rios. Fighting Kevin Mitchell isn't anywhere near enough, that is when I base my judgement of Ricky being a World Champ which he and his team claim he is. Had he fought Mitchell in a British title fight then ok, but to fight him for a World title isn't ok.

Yet another in house fight for Frank. People moan about Arum getting Cotto and Marg in with Pac, when the likes of PBF are about. Fair enough but at least these guys are all world class fighters. Mitchell isn't and is a step down for Ricky imo. Ricky is a quality operator and should be looking at big fights in Vegas not domestic dust ups against Mitchell.

Yeah spot on, the blame lies with Frank (de ja vu anyone).

I dont see it as a good keep busy fight tho, Burns should be chasing the names and elite at LW to validate his claim as a World champ and to warrant his step up to avoid Broner was justified. If he fights less than stellar opponents like he did as SFW then it proves that it was a blatant duck. I hate the way Nelson says he would like Burns to shut up Broner's mouth, he had the chance and passed on teh opportunity.

Let's not tangent this thread too much, even though I am to blame for it

I just cant have hypocrisy when you get people criticising Groves for taking a career high payday and world title strap instead of fighting a guy he has already beat and did so by KO. It was a ***** move yeah but what Burns did was far worse imho.

    Just my tuppence worth :good

  5. Fair points, I think that sometimes we are too quick to point the finger at our own, when those across the pond are also fighting bus drivers rather than the best opponents available at the time.

Like most people I'd love to see Burns vs Rios, though I think Arum is caught between a rock and a hard place with him and Gamboa, and has kinda stumbled on the idea of sticking them in together.

Obviously Gamboa vs Lopez has gone for the forseeable, and he's not going to want to feed Rios to Marquez, because he'd be beaten up and stopped.

Back to Groves, it wouldn't have been so bad if the pull out had happened earlier, or if they'd just been honest (fat chance :nut). Fwiw, I think this fight is a bit early but they've seen an opportunity and decided to take it - fair play really.

Would people be getting this wound up if Haye had pulled out of the Audley fight, to meet Povetkin or if Clev had pulled out of Karpecny to fight Pascal? Or is it just because of the personalities involved?

  7. I'd call Haye a coward who was afraid of southpaws and Cleverly a legend for taking on a harder fight.

    Nothing to do with personalities.

    Honest.

    I mean really.

People moan that Brooks hasn't stepped up and that Frank kept him at domestic level for too long. Groves does opposite and goes for World title very early and gets hammered for it!

The way he did it was wrong, absolutely. But his intentions are right and I would of done exactly the same. One loss for him blows his payday chances away.

Yeah I agree with that. I think more people are pissed that Jeff and the other undercard fighters have been ****ed over than the fight cancelled. It was the late timing that angered everyone, imo the blame should go to WBO for putting the purse bids reveal before the fight, they could and should fo waited till after Groves fought Anderson. Had they done that none of this would of happened.

I think Frank had a few fingers in a few pies and the Steiglitz pie was the biggest. Maybe put Degale in an eliminator for no.1 contender aswell as defending his european title at the same time? Force a Degale v Groves rematch down the line, afterall Groves will go to the US and be part of the Golden Boy banner. Best bet for Frank is to line up Degale as no1 contender and mandatory for Groves title (should he win) that way he cashes in. Pardon me for being cynical :yep

The article is about Groves v Anderson being cancelled nothing to do with Burns, would help if we stayed on topic of the thread or start ANOTHER thread about how Brurns ducked Broner! yawnnnnn.

  11. I think Brook has been well handled since he left Frank.

There actually seems to be some direction to his career, other than fighting bums on DeGale undercards and then whining in the press that the WBO should strip Pacquiao. That was the top and bottom of Frank's management of Kell unfortunately.

Since then he's had two proper opponents and a knock over job in America, and now a fight against an ex-European champion who didn't disgrace himself in a title challenge at 154.

As things were, he was going to be gifted a WBO title at 147 or 154, and be on the ''never been stopped route'' for ever and a day.

Sorry guys, no more tangent talk. I was merely putting my case across to Dunky.

Umm slightly different. Groves/Anderson is potentially a very good fight and well deserving for both. The others you mentioned weren't.

I can understand why many are upset It was a really intriguing fight but no one can blame Groves for stepping up to fight Stieglitz for a World Title. It's not like he has dumped his British Title to fight a shot cabby from Belfast in his back yard is it ?.:deal
