Groves/Plant is a 50/50 fight for me. Plant is bigger a little more elusive, but Groves was a bigger puncher and a bit faster. Both tend to lose whenever they step up, neither were the best of their era and maybe the power of Groves sees him come out on top or maybe he just finds a way to lose like he so often did. Froch/Benavidez would be a cracking fight given their styles. But you can't favour Benavidez in this match up, he simply isn't as proven as Froch. Froch can be out boxed from range but that isn't Benavidez's style, in fact with his long jab, I see Froch winning the fight on the outside. Even if Benavidez turns it into a brawl, Froch is a warrior and can take whatever Benavidez dishes out and in a battle of attrition I wouldn't bet against Froch.
Groves mentioned sparring Plant, didn't seem too worried about him. Groves is fast and 'slick' enough, and much more powerful. Plant got KO'd by Canelo, so he's not iron-chinned. I would take Groves in that, by KO. Groves had a bad run of luck during his peak years, probably could have had better results with his abilities. Had the fall out with his trainer right before the Froch fight, first fight was obviously shafted and that stoppage just looks worse as time goes on actually, then sort of got stuck with the hippy trainer for a while, who tried to make him a combo puncher, which may have cost him the Jack fight. Shoulder rehab before the Smith fight. Then retired young partly because he had demons from putting that guy in a wheelchair. He did well financially but I wouldn't exactly say he had all the breaks in the sporting sense.
Froch and Groves Plant could maybe beat Groves but Froch beats the good but overrated Benavidez, maybe stops him
Froch gave Ward a good fight, I think he would give David hell in an absolute war. I back him to beat Benny by competitive decision.
Benaividez stops Froch and Groves beats Plant but perhaps I am biased as I have always considered Groves a mate.
Groves fell short multiple times on the highest stage before evetually becoming world champion Froch has his lack of ability exposed numerous times but his engine, chin and heart got him through many times. Plant may be too small for Groves (who was a big SMW) while Benavidez may overpower them both.
Froch who used to only come in at about 172lbs Beat Kessler Bute Pascal Abraham Taylor Dirrell Groves Johnson - semi-washed Reid - washed All of those were 168 pounders sans Abraham and Taylor who had come up from 160 Benavidez who is a massive 168 natural 175 pounder Beat Plant - who had he beaten? Subway Mike Lee? Feigenbutz? A washed Dirrell? A shot Truax? Uzecat? Boo Boo - came up from 154/160 and has never beaten a single world champion at 154 or 160, let alone at 168 or a giant one at 168 Lemieux - washed blown up 160 who was a ''bum'' back when a 160 pounder GGG beat a prime version at Lemieux's natural and best weight Dirrell - washed I'm a big fan of Benavidez but these are the only world class opponents he's beaten for goodness sake. He's talented and I think he's #2 at the weight and might possibly be the best but he still has to prove it first Froch mixed in way higher company and has a way better resume than Benavidez and he has a way better chin than anyone Benavidez has fought. And Froch had a nasty dig on him too
