Eubank was outsized and outclassed by Groves, but is there anyone at MW that can move up to 168 and beat him? I don't think so. Canelo looked small against Golovkin, but Canelo-Groves is a total size mismatch. Groves would beat him up badly, and I would strongly favor him over any of the other top guys moving up (GGG, Jacobs, Saunders).
He's a good brit level fighter, quite good in fact. GGG and Jacobs knock that man cold however. ** Canelo is too small, but Clenelo could probably get the job done.
Groves is not that big of a guy. I dont think hes big at all for the weight. While Groves outclassed Eubank, he still got bullied by Eubank at times.(well, not quite bullied but im in lack of a better word) Chudinov would be the best example. And he had no issues with Groves' size. Jacobs and Saunders are the same height as Groves and Golovkin is only an inch shorter. The whole size argument is kinda of a moot point.
Groves is clearly a world level fighter. Golovkin couldn't KO the much smaller Canelo, and was wary of his power and counters. That would be magnified against Groves who hits much harder and is an excellent counter puncher himself. Jacobs is susceptible against a good counter puncher (Pirog, Mora), and his defense isn't the best, I think Groves would land something big and stop him.
Why is it a moot point? Height doesn't equal size. Compare Groves performance against Eubank to Saunders, who didn't win that convincingly. Groves would beat the hell out of Saunders.
Based on a performance 3 years ago? Saunders has improved drastically. Compare Saunders performance vs Lemieux to Eubank. Saunders is a vastly different boxer now. I agree with the height doesn't equal size part, but it plays a factor. Saunders, Jacobs and others wont be blown up MWs at SMW. Groves will have a slight size advantage but that wont dictate the outcome.
come on man, he's never beaten anyone close to the world level. The only borderline world level fighters he ever fought (Froch and Jack) both beat him pretty easily. Anyways, i like the guy but best he can hope for is winning this 168lb tournament and pursuing a money fight at 175lbs because god knows there are no money fights at 168. None of these MW have any incentive to go up to a utterly barren super middleweight division.
I think he beats everyone but Golovkin. That statement expires after a year or so, in which I would reassess his form and go from there.
BJS 2.0 already schooled Groves in the gym, he gave him ''nightmares'' according to the Dark Lord Booth. And GGG broke Groves' rib when they sparred each other. Groves said he wasn't in shape but even if he was I can't see him beating GGG. It would be a good fight though.
