British and Commonwealth super-middleweight champion George Groves has wasted no time in declaring his interest in a massive domestic world title clash with new IBF title holder Carl Froch. Groves, who has cleaned up at British level with victories over Paul Smith and James DeGale, is pencilled in for a rematch with Kenny Anderson on June 30th, but would then be ready to sign on for the Nottingham fighters first defense. Id love to fight him, Groves told talksSPORTs Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show. Im on the verge of world title level. I had a chance to fight for the WBO title but it fell through. Im trying to squeeze my way into the world title arena and obviously a fight against Carl in Britain would be absolutely huge. The 24 year-old watched from ringside as Froch, 34, made light work of a proven undefeated long-term world champion in Bute and is still confident he could make his mark in any potential fight between the pair. As a fighter you have to think you can beat anyone. Carls performance was great but you have to look at every fighter and think you can beat them, he said. The Saint is yet to lose in 14 contests and boasts 11 stoppages in a three and a half-year career. The Londoner stopped next foe Anderson in six rounds on the Haye-Harrison bill in a see-saw battle and is on a hiding to nothing trying to out-do his first victory over the tough scot. It is no fault of his own that Groves has no-one left at the domestic level to fight and after a WBO title shot against Robert Stieglitz collapsed due to injury, the Hammersmith fighter had no choice but to turn back to a mandatory defense with Anderson.
Could happen, Fwank doesn't really care about him and he got a bit of exposure from the DeGale fight, for casual fans it could be a fight they'd like to see.
I doubt it, would Froch really want to step that far down in class? It's just not how he rolls. Maybe if Groves can pick up a world belt and improve over the next 18 months, then it's possible.
I can't see Froch round for more than 3 or 4 more fights, he admitted he was gonna retire if he'd lost. Kessler +1 Ward retire :deal
I don't think Froch would want to take it but I'm sure he could be talked into it, he'd see it as an easy payday compared to who he'd have to fight to get the same purse.
Groves needs to concentrate getting back in the ring. I've followed his career from the start & I've always been a fan. He's becoming somewhat tiresome now.
