Asked on boxnation,if he doesn't get Froch return.Hinted he'd like to fight in America.Who could he fight?
I think Steiglitz for the WBO would be the best option. It's a winnable fight. If Hearn wants to keep Groves in his stable for the future, making that fight at home would help.
I'd get him in with Magee quickly. Good quick victory over some one who still has some credentials. Its important for George not to be rushed into a fight he has a chance of loosing, get him a solid victory over a good professional - who is/has still been mixing it with the upper tier fighters of the division. I like every one else was really impressed with George against Froch, and I think he can mix it with world class operators, but why not take a bridge or two first. Its obvious Froch won't rematch George. So on that basis... In 2014 I'd mix George up with Magee; Feb/March in the UK. Veteren. Continue to increase his stock with a solid performance + KO. Abraham; June/July in the US. Has a decent record. Holds weight with the WBO Would outbox Arthur easily. Stieglitz; October in Germany. New WBO super middleweight. #Fame
His problem is a lack of financial backing behind him now. All well and good saying go after, Steiglitz, Dirrell etc but he has no platform to do so. George needs to sort out the promoter issue ASAP.
He's a big draw now, the Froch fight was a big platform for him, the casuals all want to see him. Hearn knows this. He'll work something out.
I'd quite like to get in with Debbie Magee as well. I think he has a keep busy/ranking fight on the WBO side before any challenge for the strap.
He needs to get a promoter sorted and he needs backing financially. He will have to work way into mandatory position to get to likes of Robert Stieglitz IMO. Now if he's got the ££ or $$ behind him he could force a fight for a title with the other champions outside of Ward but the other champions won't be offering up their belts for chump change. So it's either the rematch or jump back on the horse and hunt down Froch and if nothing then go for Bika/Stieglitz until you get a mandatory again or show these guys the money.
Completely agree. He is no better off as things stand imo despite smacking Froch all over the ring for 9 rounds.
If he can't get Froch to agree to a return (an absolute joke if it doesn't happen) then I completely agree with this.
Yep and he knows this as well his interview with IFL TV after the fight he basically gets choked up and goes ''and now i have no belts and no promoter....''. Sometimes being smart and keeping things flexible doesn't always help you. I think he will really regret the short notice fight on the Wembley show now. It was a pointless exercise IMO and ran down the contract needlessly. But i understand why he took it and possibly it did help him get to 5th in IBF but not sure it was best move in all honesty. One fight left with Eddie would of been a lot more better then no fights, no promoter and possibly being frozen out of the world title scene for the next year.
