His promotors also told him that if he decides to go for the rematch, he needs to win, otherwise it means the end of his career. Proksa said, regarding that comment, that he doesn't care, because he knows he is a much better fighter then Hope, and now he needs to prove that to himself, and to the boxing fans. From everything I have seen from him since that loss, you can tell he is very angry with himself, and very determined and motivated to come back in impressive fashion. From the interviews the way he speaks it looks like he is obsessed with it.
Which team are you referring to? Proksa is my favorite boxer. Real good skills, great background pedigree, and just overall talent. But nobody is interested in this kid. The same trainer he had for the Sylvester fight, wasn't in his corner for the Hope fight(Lapin). He had his old English trainer, and Proksa himself can't understand great English.... Proksa didn't lose cause he's a worse fighter than Hope, he lost cause of poor management, poor tactics, poor understand-ability in his corner, and just a combination of poor professional career decisions... Kerry Hope didn't win that fight, its just that Proksa lost the fight. Not trying to discredit Hope, I give the Welshman mad props, the guy fought his ass off and imo won the fight, minimally. But hes not the better of the two fighters...thats pretty clear imo. Like they say, a fighter learns more from a loss than from a win... Part of me was disgusted when proksa lost that fight, but than a part of me felt optimistic, cause I know only good things will follow. Proksa will be more hungry, more motivated, and hopefully, he will create a better team and have a management that can take him to the top of the MW division which he has the ability to do. He needs Lapin back in his corner, or his old trainer, Gmitruk.... Gmitruk would be ideal for Proksa...He, imo, would be the BEST option for Proksa right now, even more so than Roach and a English or American trainer...Gmitruk is a scholar and knows the game very well and would guide Proksa to success.
He ran out of ideas really quickly & was out-manned by a feather-fisted journeyman who wanted it more Thats what stood out for me the most, the lack of desire & drive. Proksa has talent but I dont know where he goes from here
The desire and drive was there, the gameplan and tactics however were not. He was power hungry instead of trying to box like he always does. He KO'd Sylvester cause of his boxing skills, not cause of his power punching. He was hitting a former World Champion at angles he didn't know existed. That was a different Proksa in that ring vs. Hope that night. No excuses tho, the better man that night won. Come rematch tho, I have no doubt he will prevail.
