UFC champ St-Pierre would consider retirement after Silva win, top-fighter ranking

UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre is ready to retire when he's considered the sport's pound-for-pound best.

Don't worry, though. On a special "Primetime" edition of

(www.mmajunkie.com/radio) this past Friday, St-Pierre said he's not quite there yet.

But the traditional reason for sticking around - fame and money - isn't his primary concern. Doing it his way is.

"People are going to be shocked," St-Pierre said of his tentative retirement plan.

If he beats silva then there's really nothing left for him to prove. I would love to see GSP beat silva.

Well then GSP is gonna be around for quite a while. Cause as much as I'm a fan of GSP, Spider would destroy him. That's just being realistic.

If GSP beats Anderson I would rate him the pound for pound best of all time.

I would favor Silva, but GSP could do it. GSP is an absolutely exceptional fighter.

I think his best chance to beat silva is to used his wrestling. Silva can be taken down and gsp has one of the best takedown in the ufc. It's hard to submit gsp so if he could keep sylvia on the ground then i can see him winning.

I agree and GSP also does an amazing job of passing guard as soon as the fight hits the ground. GSP is no slouch at submissions and, BJJ blackbelt or no, I could see him submitting Silva if the opportunity came up. In fact I think it is far more likely that GSP wins by sub than vice versa.

Also, he could gas Silva. It seemed to me that Silva was a bit tired at the end of the Maia fight, but GSP never ever gets tired. He might be able to ground and pound Silva, sapping his stamina and strength until he could be submitted or TKOd on the ground.

I favor Silva, but I would never count out GSP. He is too talented and he is an extremely versatile fighter. He can double leg you or throw you from the clinch. He can ground and pound you or submit you. His striking is underrated. He never gasses, and he is extremely strong and fast for his size.

How well Silva does against Sonnen might tell us a lot about what to expect in this hypothetical fight. I would love for GSP to destroy Anderson.

I become a bigger fan of GSP day by day.

Hate to see my older fighters lose but I wouldn't want it any other way.

GSP has to actually fight Silva in order to beat him first. Seeing as how that isn't happening any time soon - that makes it a bit difficult to pull off the feat no?

GSP has pretty much clean up his weight class so a fight with silva might happen sooner than expected.

Might be my ass. GSP is fighting Koscheck next. Until they actually announce the fight with Silva and put it on a PPV - it ain't happening.

Why are we even talking about this ? This fight isnt even close to happening. Silva has Sonnen in front of him and if he wins that theres probably a fight with Vitor Belfort in November and GSP has Koscheck in December then if he wins probably more Welterweight fights as hes said in the past he doesnt have awhole lot of interest in 185 and if he moves up he really wants to take the needed time put on the weight properly.

Would be a shame to see him go.
