No. Anderson Silva is first, followed by Fedor with GSP being a distant 3rd.

Anderson Silva has defended his title 10 times and never been defeated in the UFC.

 

When judging Ali's career, how much stock do you put into the Holmes, Berbick, or Spinks losses?

I'm just using the most obvious and relatable example here.

 

I put as much stock as I do for every single fight of his career, it's part of the big picture.

Was he on the slide? Yes. Does it show on his record? Yes. Do the fights at the end of one's career account for something? Hell ****ing yes.

Now let me ask you, do you know the definition of the word resume? Do you understand the meaning? Because I think about 90% of fight fans don't.

 

I understand what you are getting at, but I think that things should be looked at in context. Otherwise we could just discuss fights by looking at records rather than watching them. Which is a thing I suspect a lot of fight fans do.

 

Fighting passed your prime and losing is no free pass. Be a man, and let these fighters be men. They signed the contract, they trained, they stepped in the cage, ring, and accept full responsibility for what happens. Ask any Great and they won't make excuses for what happens after stepping into a fight.

 

You know, everyone has an opinion which is great. Which is what message boards are for, which is why I log in everyday. I just think losses on fighter's records are excused and ignored all too often.

stoo has got to be out of his ****ing mind to place GSP above Anderson Silva. To in the same breathe claim Anderson Silva is the most talented Mixed Martial Artist ever. 10 Title Defenses to GSP's 7, Hendo, Vitor Belfort belong in the same class as Matt Hughes and BJ Penn. Possibly higher (I rate Hendo #3 All Time), but Anderson Silva has 3 more Title Defenses and jumped weight, making it look easy, finishing LHWs in the opening round.

Like I said, major hangups that man has.

 

Out of all of this, so far, I take most exception to Vitor being in the same class as Hughes and Penn.

 

That's gravy, but my man has been doing it longer, stronger and with more Title Defenses under his belt.

I think debating who is goat in MMA right now considering is such a waste of time considering how young the sport is. FFS Silva and GSP are still fighting and Fedor JUST retired.

That being said, I can't stand the myth concerning Fedor's "decade of dominance" that gets thrown around. Outside the Cro Cop and Nogueira wins, Fedor's resume isn't that impressive. What would you guys say is his 4th best win?
