this happens if gsp overcomes penn......which i think he will.

alves is the number one contender after beating guys like hughes and koschcheck.

his style should give gsp lots of problems imo. i actually pick him in an upset.

I lurrrrve watching Alves fight. How he makes 170 il never know. But the kid is a wrecking ball. Id also take Alves by upset. As soon as he taps GSP chin the guys going to know he`s in a fight.

GSP will be ready, I think he can do what Kos couldn't and that's get Alves off his feet with a takedown. Should be very close fight none the less, If anybody is a threat at 170 to GSP Alves is that guy.

If it goes to the mat GSP has the superior ground game. But he`s going to struggle to get Alves to the mat and will eat a knee on the way in. Alves is a devastating striker and i think thats GSP major weakness.Going to be a great fight either way though.

It will be St-Pierre's toughest challenge. I picked both Hughes and Koscheck to beat Alves. But Thiago proved me wrong. Yet again, I'm going to pick against him. Maybe the third time will be a charm?

    St-Pierre by third round TKO.

GSP - Alves would be a great fight. I hope it happens. Alves is a real contender and a legitimate threat to GSP.

I wonder if GSP will even be able to get Alves to the ground? He usually sets up his takedowns with his strikes - but Alves won't be bothered by his striking - thus making it harder for GSP to secure the takedown.

    Very interesting.

I give Alves a striker's chance. Pierre has been stopped, and Alves throws powerful strikes.

I picked Alves to defeat Koscheck, and he did so in a very competitive fight. Pierre looked to be in a different league than Kos. in their fight.

Pierre will dominate Alves in the clinch, and on the ground. Alves' only chance is to catch Pierre with a powerful strike, and it is not as though Pierre sucks in the striking department. I'll pick GSP with no hesitation here.

I was thinking the same thing - couldn't help but think of how Alves like to use his knees and the possibility of GSP getting caught on the way in.

GSP will take Alves down. I'd personally rather see Alves fight Anderson Silva but that isn't gonna happen unless Alves beats GSP.

    Georges St. Pierre TKO 2.
Like I said in a other thread, if Alves had trouble dealing with Fitch on his back, he is in for another whooping vs GSP. But I do think he is better on his back than he was vs Fitch, but GSP will be too good on the ground for him.

Only chance of Alves, is, too avoid being taked down by the best at takedown in the UFC and land one big knee right on the button.

I don't think he will take him down at will. Those explosive take downs set up by punches etc. won't work i think because he'll just cop a knee to the head and his chin isn't amazing. But I think GSP has the natural strength and altheticism to take Alves down from the clinch or possibly pin him to the cage and slam him. And he'll have to do that as quick as he possibly can beacuse if stays standing too long he will be knocked out. His stand up is good but not to the standard of Alves, I think.

no, GSP has way better chance to take Alves down at distance, and I dont think Alves will take chance by throwing one big knee like that, because he dont want to be on his back vs a guy like GSP.
In the clinch, I do think Alves would be able to keep the fight standing.
GSP rarely bring people down at clinch, he does it by explosion setted up with his great arsenal of strike :good

and for GSP dont have the standing to compete with Alves, well you have my opinion on that matter:bbb:bbb:bbb
