What's awkward is that Kauffman isn't even ranked (in any org's top 15: https://fightnews.com/rankings-2). So there's no real tangible reward sitting on the other end of the seesaw to balance out the risk. :nusenuse:

At least target someone like Tony Bellew, Ebenezer Tetteh, or Zhilei Zhang, nahmsayin?

Agree completely. And good call on Bellew: Tarver vs Bellew is actually a decent cash-out opportunity for both, if that fight could be made.

I'm still torn between Segura (on top of all the other warning signs, facing a big puncher), Tarver (oldest person on the list and facing a moderately powerful and skilled natural super heavy coming off a layoff with no tuneup), Shumenov (with <2 and perhaps even <1 fully-functioning eyeballs) and Wright (seriously worried DeLuca might send him into the ICU)

I honestly think that with Tarver, it could be about the money.

Him and Trout (whom I very nearly included among the OP list ...and if he loses to a second Charlo brother and isn't highly competitive and jumps directly in with another elite I'm going to file him officially under "somebody please save this guy from himself" as well) both have (or in Tarver's had, and could easily regain if he wanted to, with enough time having now passed since the failed drug test incident) cushy gigs commentating, though...

Man, i miss Tarver as a commentator. I can't stand him as a person or a fighter, but i love him behind that mic.

Trout is only 32, and i thought he beat Jermall. But he might want to take a step down in competition. Nothing wrong with extending your career with a few easier fights.

Trout is a weird case. He is still perfectly capable of taming care of himself and even bagging a few rounds from elites, but the guy has just had too many tough fights at too high a level in a row...and they all go long distance because he is blessed/cursed with just good enough a chin to be dropped but not for the count, and just enough pop to get every light middle's respect but not quite switch their lights out.

I'll bet @CST80 is similarly conflicted about Trout continuing on period, with especially mixed emotions about him crossing swords once more with House Charlo.

Speaking of staying on too long vs. getting out right on time...it appears my boy Fenix Ruiz - who turns 40 this December - has opted not to return after Nyambayar ended his career-long unstoppable stream. I'm glad for that, but will miss the ironheaded little madman...plus that means the mantle of "Best active chin in boxing p4p" must be passed on... hmm..

Do we know if Tug ever actually hurt him, or if it was simply a waved off contest because the iron chinned and concrete headed Ruiz wouldn't actually touch down and go away? A stoppage, to me, isn't necessarily an indictment of a fighters chin giving out. Look at the likes of Juan Laporte being stopped by the light hitting but monster work rate of Zack Padilla way back when...

No video extant, AFAIK...but regardless, this sport is a cruel & fickle mistress populated mostly with Neanderthal fans. You know as well as I that in the average pea-brain casual's mind, a stoppage on paper does inherently equate to a chin being cracked without regard for extenuating circumstance or facts...so in one fell swoop Juan has lost any novelty marketability he once had on the domestic matchmaking scene...meaning if he were to continue to drag prospects into deep waters for a living (sacrificing countless brain cells in the bargain) he'd be doing it for shorter money than before...and that's a depressing thought.

Trout, if he looses, should go back to 2014 and 15.
Just take it easy for a while. Work on things and come back better.
